friend just put a set of aftermarket heads on his 85 H.O. and now the pushrods are too short by a hundred thousandths,,dont know what heads hes got but anyone run into that ?,,originals are 6.248 and he needs 6.350,,easy enough to locate but the second question; original replacements go for about $40 a set ,,the only longer ones we've found are about $150 from the cam companies,,why the difference in price and does anyone know a source for more economical replacements?

Longer ones for most aftermarket heads are hardened since they are used with guide plates 99% of the time. Check out Trick Flow pushrods, they are usually priced well.

And yes, when going to most aftermarket heads, pushrod length will change.

thanks,,guess that's how they make some extra cash since the longer ones are so much ,,seems like the rocker arm geometry would be affected tho

Maybe I'm lost. How did he come up with the measurement if he didn't check rocker geometry?

Then the rocker geometry should be fine. Assuming he measured right.
