I am putting in a 5.0 into a 65 mustang with a 289 and power steering. It also has a c4, I am putting a t5 into replace that. I plan on keeping the serpentine system from the 5.0. What parts will I need for the swap, i.e oil pan motor mounts, etc. I plan on getting the t5 kit from mustangs plus, would you guys suggest going somewhere else? If anyone has put a 88-95 5.0 into a 65 mustang a parts list would be greatly appreciated. The engine and computer/harness and t5 I am using are from my wrecked 1995 GT.

So far here is what I think I need

Clutch and pedal kit
new driveline
will i need a new strut tower brace?
motor mounts?
oil pan?
also thinking about buying a painless wiring harness for the 65 as well.

Thanks guys any help is highly appreciated

I put a 5.0 and T-5 in my 65 convert. I highly recommend the Ford Motorsports wiring harness that is designed for putting a 5.0 in an older car. It fits fine, and the instruction book is very good. I used a 289 oil pan, which required relocating the oil dipstick. I had to modify the strut tower brace, and I put a cross brace just behind the radiator for good measure, tied into the stock convertible braces. For motor mounts, use the stock 289 mounts for a 66 (stronger than 65 ones). I used a mechanical clutch linkage, but would probably do a hydraulic one if I were to do it over. A local shop fabricated a new driveshaft for me. I used a Grenada rear axle, with '85 Cadillac Seville disk brakes on it. Good luck!!

you might have to change your radiator too. the outlet on the pump for the 5.0 is on the driver side and the stock 65 radiator has the lower inlet on the passenger side, i was also informed a few days ago that e'brock now has a reverse rotation water pump with outlet on the passenger side, not sure how much it costs though. another thing you might want to think about is using a cable clutch setup instead of the mechanical linkage setup. there are a lot of kits out there, windsor-fox and modern driveline come to mind, but there is also mustang steve too, he can build you one or he has instructions on his website how to do it too. here is a link to his site www.mustangsteve.com you might also try doing a search there is a lot of info on this site about that stuff, and if you go to the classic talk forum, there is a sticky at the top that has a lot of info there as well, if you can't find what you're looking for there or in the search, just ask, someone here will point you in the right direction

This guy has one very respectable stang. It's been on my favorites for years now. He just recently put in a EFI 5.0 but has had a t5 for a while now. Check it out.
