5.0 Ram Air Kit possible in 65 Stang?

I was looking at this kit 5.0 FORD 1979 AND LATER PERFORMANCE SERPENTINE PULLEYS and was wondering if this could work in a classic mustang or if someone had a better idea for bolt-ons.

I did mine for cheap and it is functional, got slips to prove it..

The 5.0 one is basically a glorified cold air intake. The opening is way too small to "force" any air into the intake though it is in a much better place than the 69/70 ram air. I have hears some stories about people sucking up water with those so if you do end up getting one, be very careful about road debris and puddles. Personally i really like ga289stocker's setup. It looks clean and it works.

Well I want to do the pulley kit for sure on the 5.0. Would I be better off doing a cold air intake then instead of the ram air setup?

ga289stocker: that's a good solution considering the front grill sucks in air anyway.

Ramairbox.com sells the airbox itself for around $125. I got mine second hand used for $75 and just sparyed it to match the body. They sell the other pieces as well but i got the ducts at the local parts store and the tubing from home depot.
It sites on a 1" dropped base as well that you can get from the site or Summit/Jegs sells them. Total I had about $120 in the whole set up.

I was looking at this kit 5.0 FORD 1979 AND LATER PERFORMANCE SERPENTINE PULLEYS and was wondering if this could work in a classic mustang or if someone had a better idea for bolt-ons.

I bought the March 1000 pulley kit for my crate motor I put in my '65, but I have an AC compressor, tensioner, 160A 3G Alternator (which doesn't accept the alternator pulley in the kit) and custom brackets.

The kit is made to work with a reverse rotation waterpump, so you would have to use a stock setup from an 80's or 90's Mustang or get creative with custom brackets and spacers. Another option is to spring for the entire march pulley and bracket kits.($$$)

If you don't have PS or AC, just keep the V-belt setup.

So you do or do not have the serp pulleys already? If you have the regular v-grooves, it obviously won't work. The 289 also has a 3 bolt crank vs. 5.0's 4 bolt. Just doing an idiot check.

You should follow his link, then. I don't like how Stangnet inserts the page title for you. Sometimes they aren't exactly what's being described.

If you read, he said he wanted to do the pulleys as well. So CHECK.

Sorry, for some reason I read your reply together with Tim65's quote and reply.

Many years ago I ran across some circular sheet metal housings at Home Depot that fit exactly inside a Moroso 14" air cleaner base. A few holes, rivets, PVC adapters and ducts, plus a conical K&N filter I had a cheap ram-air setup. The filter was the most expensive part. It worked but looked like crap then I didn't need it anymore with the Shelby hood so I yanked it all.

It's cool, I know what you meant. Hot Rod did the same thing you did but I think they kept the 14" filter. Theirs didn't look too nice.

Is there a way to make it ram air through the shelby style hood scoop for an EFI '66 Mustang? that would be interesting!

Unfortunately the shaker and shelby scoups are pointed the wrong direction for any ram air effect. They should be backwards like the cowl hoods in order to get positive pressure. Other than that, they are just a glorified cold air intake. With that said, I am still going to put a shaker on my mach... hehe

Shelby scoops are too short to get any ram effect. Even with the air moving over it, the air that far back on the hood is mostly going to be slow-moving boundary layer flow, perhaps even static- to low-pressure due to the high frontal area these cars have. An effective ram hood scoop would have to be pretty tall with a much larger opening than your typical Shelby hood. All that wasted frontal space on each side of the radiator is as good a place as any for a ram setup.
