Is a good deal, I mean will it work with any 5 lug wheels that fit on the newer stangs? Is it a better brake setup for the fox body. Can you use the cobra upgraded calipers?? a lot of questions but if it isnt better than what I have then why upgrade??
thanks

You need way more stuff than that. You aren't really gaining anything but the extra lug. You still use the same calipers. Do you want to do a 5 lug convo with drums? I wouldn't. Use SN95 parts to do the conversion. There is a reason it is cheap, because you gain very little except wheel choices and that extra lug.

No you dont gain wheel selection. The lincoln rotors/ranger axles and drums limit your wheel selection. Same thing you are looking at on the 50resto page.

yes those pages contain a wealth of info on 4/5 lug brake info and what you need and what route you should take depending on what type/width/offset wheels you want....

off topic: i 've been reading your brake info for like three days and i am convinced to stay 4-lug and go with 73mm calipers and t-bird rear discs with northrace brackets and a 94 MC 2-3 port conversion(from you), gut my PV and get an adjustable PV, and get some 4lug 03 cobras.... and after reading, it looks simple to do, i didnt want to bother before because i thought it was complicated....

I did the cconversion on my 86GT and got ranger axles & drums from the local junkyard for $100 and new ranger front rotors from o'rileys for $25 each. I replaced the axle bearings while I wan in there and I think that was about another $15. The lincoln rotors probably cost about the same as the rangers though. But I think you are actually limiting your wheel options by going that route. I see the 94-95 stuff all the time for about $150 without the rotors.

ranger front rotors?? that is a new one for me. Were you able to run the sn95 wheels (bullits, cobras) with those. I guess my biggest concern is if it is even worth it. Would I gain the same from just putting rear 4 lug discs on and upgraded front calipers?

Okay....THIS IS WHERE THE NEW THREAD BEGINS NOW....lol.
I didn't wanna just open another one, so this was the best one I could find with some still unanswered questions.

I am looking to buy the 50 resto kit, simply because I just want the extra lug....
Anyway, does anyone know if the 94+ waffle wheels, or those 94-whenever cobra wheels will fit with this kit????

Just how hard is it to put in those axle shafts?? How's it done?

Reason I am wanting just the lug, is because a friend wants to trade just my pony rims for a complete Cobra intake, and I have a set of 16" waffles for my $400 worth of tires I just bought. I then can buy a set of those CObra wheels for $100, and Ill come out in the end with a Cobra intake, and wheels....lol.

EDIT: This thread said that the waffles and the Cobras can fit so now I guess i just need to know about those axles.
Thanks all!

-Adam.

Yes, the kit will work for waffle-star rims and 94-97 Cobra wheels (including Cobra R's)

The axles are easy to swap. What you do is get the rear end on jackstands and pull the tires and drums. Open the diff cover and drain the fluid. Rotate the diff until you see the bolt holding the center pin in. Take that bolt out and then rotate the diff to take out the center pin.

Once you do that, do 1 axle at a time. Push the axle in and use needle nose pliers to take out the C-clip. Then pull the axle out and push in the new axle. Install the C-clip and then pull the axle outward to lock in place. Repeat for other side. Reinstall center pin and bolt and slide onthe drums.

Then just refill the diff with gear oil and friction mod.

Ranger front rotors are ONLY for the 79-86 Mustangs and 87-93 4-banger Mustangs. They are 10" rotors.

87+ 5.0's have 11" front rotors so your replacement rotor ould be Lincoln Mark 7 rotors.

The 5.0 restoration kit is basically Mark 7 front rotors and ranger axles and drums. You will be limited on your wheel selection and you can't use any brake upgrades with it. It's just a cheap easy way to get 1 extra lug and run some wheels

Yes the waffle wheels will fit as well as the 94-95 cobra wheels.
The only time you run into trouble is with certain wheels that taper in and you have to upgrade to the newer spindles.

It is not really hard to put in the axle shafts. Remove the diff cover, remove one bolt holding in the center pin and push out the pin to allow the axles to be pushed in. Push the axles in and remove the C-Clips and pull them out.
Reverse the order for install and fill the rear back up with fluid.
Don't forget the wonderful smelling friction modifier.

Do a search and you might find a more detailed explination.

Try this link. It looks like you can get the SN95 94-95 package for abou the same price and you won't be limited on your wheel selection. Plus, this setup is much more upgradeable.

What are they charging for this kit. I have racing shoes on the rear and they stop as good or even better than disc on the rear and I want to run 94-95 Cobra rims.

many reason peoply want to go 5 lug and do the disc's is becasue they want the wheels. I personally will not run a 4 lug cobra wheel. It just does not look right at all to me. I hate the way it looks, I would rather spend the money and go with the sn95 stuff and get the wheels of my choice, thats what alot of people do and is why they do not stay 4 lug.

yea i just changed my mind again, im going to sn95 front parts with PBR dual piston calipers and staying drum in the rear for the time being, and now i cant decide between silver bullitts, black bullits, or 99 cobras...
