5.0 shutdown on me

So I'm typing this as I sit on the side of the road waiting on the tow truck. As most of you know I just got my car out of the shop for cam position sensor went bad on it supposedly. So I'm just leaving the car show and I'm getting on the interstate jst trying to put the car through it's paces and make sure it's fixed. As soon as I shift to 2nd the car bogs down like it had been doing, go to third and it's still struggling. All of a sudden I hear some rattling around and I'm looking in the rear view mirror and see smoke pouring our car. So I pull over to the shoulder immediately. And as soon as I get to the shoulder car just kills and won't start back at all

So It sounded like something fell off the car with all that clanking and rattling but I didn't see anything on the interstate. So I pop the hood cuz I snt see any smoke anymore. I check the oil and the dipstick is bent so whatever happened it musta hit the stick or something idk

go to check wear u pour the oil at and smoke just comes pouring out of the opening.

Man this sucks. It was a beautiful day for a cruise now I'm sitting on the road waiting on a damn tow truck

this is what happened saturday. i'm just copying and pasting from another forum i posted in. car is in the shop today and i'm waiting on them to call and tell me what happened officially.

the dealership says they dont do loaner cars but they contract to enterprise and itd b just like i was renting a car. no thanks on that cuz thatd b 400 dollars for 1 week of rental with the deposit

my car is stock and unmodded. haven't even touched the exhaust yet

i know the ford customer service rep is on here and hopefully they chime in so they can help me

being a brand new car, that's under warranty and being unmodded, you would think they would be obligated to give you a loaner vehicle

everyone online is saying more than likely my engine will b getting replaced and ford will have it a while and if thats the case i'm going to demand a loaner vehicle cuz i need something to get me from point A to B. ill call the head office cuz thats ridiculous if they dont offer that

i checked enteprise rent a car and they want a 200 dollar deposit along with however much the rental would b for a week. the guy said id end up paying around 400 between the deposit for a rental and a car for the week. so lets say its 200 a week and ford has my vehicle for 3 weeks thatll b a total of 800 dollars including the deposit. thats straight bull****

Ask the dealer to rent the car and pay them. They get a much better rate. I did this once when my F150 was in the shop for a week....I think it was 17.00 a day a few years back...Also check with your insurance company and if you are a AAA member, American Legion, or many other groups you can get a good discount.

They actually are not obligated to give you a loaner car. The service manager should have contacted the local Ford customer rep to get an approval code for a rental within a reasonable budget so you wont get stuck with lets say a Hyundai accent but should be able to get something midsized. Yes it is unfortunate that you have to shell out the money however once the warranty claim is put through it only take a week or so for Ford to electronically transfer reinbursement money to the dealers account and then they can cut you a check.

BTW sounds like a cam phaser may have let loose and wrecked your motor.

Did u have to put a deposit down or did u just sign the paperwork and pay 17 dollars a day. Think he told me it would b like 30 dollars a day. That's doable as long as I dnt have to come up with a damn 200 dollar deposit.

That's the first time I heard cam phaser. Everyone else is saying a rod might have broken or a head or something. Whatever it is wouldn't it b sitting In the oil pan since it sounded like something fell out the bottom of the car but I didn't see anything yet the end of the dipstick was bent. So if if was bent whatever it was had to hit it and is probably resting in the oil pan

guy called me back at 530 this afternoon but I was sleep for work by then. Said he has technicians on it and he'll b able to tell me more about it today. So my car was there all day and they still hadn't really gotten to it. That sucks

if it's a broken rod or head or something major do they replace the whole motor. I would hope so instead of them just machining it

If that car ends up needing a motor, I'd just get it replaced and then trade the pile in on a new one...no way would I want a brand new car that already had to have a motor ripped out and replaced, just wouldn't be the same IMO.

This would be a terrible decision as the depreciation hit has already been taken. A few months ago the car was purchased for somewhere around 35k, and is now worth less than 30. Any reputable dealer can replace the engine and have the car back to 100%.

As for loaners/rentals, etc... The dealer is not obligated to supply alternative transportation for you. If they have a loaner fleet and something comes available and they offer it to you, great. Otherwise you can lobby with Ford Customer Service to approve some rental coverage for you.

True, but I wouldn't enjoy the payment on a car that had already had to have its heart torn out.

To me it would be much the same as having an accident in a new car--it's just never the same, I'd trade it off, depreciation hit or not. That's just me though. Either way, I'd be pissed if my brand new car had a wasted motor through no fault of my own.

I would say that if they are going to put a brand new crate motor in it you should be fine but if they want to rebuild the engine I would have a big problem with that. Just my 2 cents.

I thought I'd b pissed but I'm actually in pretty good spirits about it. To me it's not the same as wrecking the car cuz when u wreck a car it's just never right it's always a squeak or knock or tick that wasn't there before.

With a new motor it's a brand spanking née motor from the factory that should run just as smooth if not smoother. No different than if I took it out and swapped a fully built motor in it.

Oh and they gave me a rental and are paying for it in full til my car is ready.

I have a friend who was one of those who tuned their car early and had the #8 piston failure and ford covered his and replaced his motor and his car runs better than it did before.

The new engines r usually stronger and better performing cause most everything that was wrong has usually been taken care

It blew a rod and a piston. Piston was completely disentegrated I'm guessing from when it impacted the motor and put a hole in it. Guy said they couldn't really tell what happened. The inside was pretty mangled so they wouldn't know anything more until it gets to ford and they can analyze it.

Thr new motor came in Tuesday morning sp hopefully I'm back in my car by Friday.

IMo, it wouldn't stress me out so much since they are doing it. Hell, it should be better off than when you bought it. good luck brother.

Exactly. I'm not stressing I'm cool. Nah back I the day when I wrecked my 04 gt and it had to get body work I was stressing and rushing them to get it done. But now I'm older and relaxed. All the kinks should b worked out of a newer motor. Should run perfect. Hope to have it back before the end of the week
