5.0L swap questions

So tomorrow I'm picking up a 5.0L and T5 combo that I got a good deal on. I was reading that in order to fit this into my 66 I need to change the timing chain cover. I was also reading that I can just drill the cover for the oil dipstick.

Can someone just clarify what I need to do as far as the timing chain cover goes?
Also I don't know about whether the engine had a mechanical or electric fuel pump so do I need to get a timing cover that will allow a mechanical? I don't know if you can run an electric fuel pump with a carb. This is just confusing and I am hoping someone can clear it up before I go pick this combo up tomorrow.

Since you're asking about using a mechanical fuel pump, I'm going to assume you're going to carb the engine.

In that case, you'll definitely need a new cover as there is no provision for a mechanical pump on 86+ engines (85 is still carbed) out of Mustangs anyways...

Other than that, couldn't tell you any difference on the covers. You'll also need to swap the pan and pump pickup if the engine is out of a Fox mustang to a front sump.

i am in the middle of doing similar swap. Mine is a 351 from an 94 bronco. because i went from a rear sump to a front sump oil pan, i needed a dipstick in the front cover. So, drilled out a hole in the original stock timing cover to install a Lokar dipstick. Seems to be working so far. Now i need to plug the original dipstick hole in the side of the block. I also went with a March serpentine kit. Switched out the efi to a 93 mustang system. Engine fired right up. Now i need to tune the computer for the new engine. Stroked to 408.

well for my swap, i used an electrical fuel pump, just make sure that it is low enough to pump the fuel.

as for the timing chain cover, we drill a hole for the new dip stick a jammed a piece of 3/8" dowel wood into the old position.

All you need to do on the timing cover is drill the hole for the oil dipstick tube. The dipstick tube and dipstick can be bought at your local Advance Auto Parts, Autozone, O'Reilly's, etc) All you need for a fuel pump is a low volume, low pressure electric, also available at the same parts houses (Mr. Gasket 30 gal/hr---4-7 psi pump) This pump is sufficient to feed three carbs at WOT.
