I am about to install a '95 5.0L into a 65 Mustang that currently has a 4-speed Top Loader transmission. My question is what clutch/pressure plate/throw-out bearing set-up can I use. I will be using the 50-oz flywheel which has the 10.5" bolt pattern so I guess I will have to use a 86-95 5.0L clutch/pressure plate? The clutch disc is a 1-1/16" 10-spline which is fine for the Top Loader but will a newer throw-out bearing work with the '65 Top Loader clutch fork?

Thanks,
Wayne

I'm running a Toploader behind the 5.0 in my 89 Ranger. This is with a stock 60's bell, McCleod hydraulic T/O bearing , 50 oz flywheel, and a Centerforce dual driction late model clutch and pressure plate. Not sure about the diaphram clutch with the Stang mechanical linkage and T/O bearing, if anything you may need to fab a longer clutch adjustment rod. The 65 T/O bearing should work fine with the diaphram P/plate.

Thanks for the info. I will probably just have to install the parts to see if they work (mechanical linkage).

I have a 66 & 68 with a 5.0l and toploader. I have the oem bellhousing on the 66, and a Lakewood scattershield on the 68; oem style linkage on both, and use a Centerforce Dual Friction clutch (pn DF490030) and Centerforce Throwout (pn N 1439) on both.

They both work great with no problems.

Thanks for the info! Do either of your cars have the factory 5.0l flywheel?

You are going to need the conversion bracket for the mechanical linkage. There is a boss cast into the earlier blocks that was removed in the late 70s. I think NPD sells the conversion bracket.... its like 50 bux or so.
