5.4 engine

I'm trying to learn more about mod motors and swaps so a question came to mind. Is there a aluminum 5.4 block besides the fordgt/gt500 block? Also, with a 5.4 swap is it possible to keep a stock hood on any of the new edge sn95? I know they have spacers to keep a 4.6 4v intake on a 5.4 just wondering if you have to do drop motor mounts like a 302 to 351 swap on a foxbody. Also, are the advantages of a 5.4 far superior to that of a 4.6? I know they have quite a bit more displacement.

the GT500 uses an iron block. i saw in the 2009 FRPP catalog that they do offer an Aluminum 5.4 block thats machined for wet sump and starter. Sean Hyland also has his own 5.4L block.

Not sure about an FRPP 5.4 aluminum block, but they do make an aluminum 5.0 block.

It's $5000 for a bare block.

It'd be cheaper to do a big bore 4.6 if you really want the displacement.

you are partly correct. the GT500 uses an iron block, however the Ford GT Supercar uses an Aluminum block.

Will it bolt right in, yes for the most part. Will the stock hood still fit? Probably not because the 5.4 has almost a full inch more deck height than the 4.6. The 5.4L is literally a stroked 4.6L with some extra deck-height.

Which supercar? The 5.4 and the 4.6 do not share the same crank. The 5.4 crank uses a 4.165" stroke. The 4.6 crank uses a 3.540" stroke.

U.M. i will ask him..he has worked at ford like forever,and he also is an engine rebuilder...he help me with my engine problem.. and the gt40 was what he was talking about,maybe i misunderstood him,,,but he was saying how the 03 cobra engine was tops untill that car,,,,,How about the new boss 302......

your friend is wrong, the cranks are different, conrods are different. you cant get the pistons separate on the GT supercar, they are only serviced as a conrod/piston assembly.

Partly, at one point the FGT was driving around with a Terminator motor while the 5.4 was still being designed.
