I was wondering i just purchased a forged lightning short block from a friend for 200 bucks, i have a 96 gt ,and a set of 2000 heads will the heads go on the block and what other problems will i run into .I'm going to use the 4.6 intake and all the other items on the 4.6. I'm just curious to know if it is a straight foward swap!!!:shrug:

Someone correct me if I am wrong...

It is my understanding that the 5.4 block has a taller deck height than the 4.6. That said, I believe the heads will bolt up, but I do not believe that the 4.6 intake will work as the intake ports would be further apart between the heads. You may be forced to use a 5.4 intake unless someone makes an adapter.

Yes, you should* be able to bolt on the heads, but you will not be able to use a 4.6 intake. You'll have to use a 5.4 intake for the exact reasons stated by HOO. In my opinion, the 5.4 isn't really worth the cost because you are still airflow limited and will make about the same power (at least with a bit extra torque). Also, you'd better do some research to find out if your brackets will bolt on or you'll have to source different ones.

it is foolish and a waste of time and money to use 2v heads on a 5.4. 3v and boost it.

I don't see it being foolish at all when he just bought a bottom end for $200, and he allready has a set of 2v heads in his posession.

That motor will make good tourqe.

DEFINATLY read that monsterously long thread about the 5.4 2v swap. Its not much more complicated than a 4.6/4.6 swap at all.

They are in the works for this specific swap intake manifold, but to my knowlege it is not out yet. The adapter plates will have to do for now, unless you use a 5.4 manifold, and they either suck at flow (truck models) or won't fit under the hood.

5.4

The only reason I'm doing this is because the rods and pistons are the strongest from the factory, but the cost effectiveness of the progect is kind of azzbackwards,I talked to modular racing in California he said i would have to use short headers the timing cover and timing assy from a 5.4 and their spacers to work but after thinking it over i don't know if the 4.6 accy.'s will bolt to the 5.4 timing cover.but if it doesn't work i guess i will sell the short block.

Accessories bolt up as far as I know.

Its not a bad swap at all, alot of people are happy with the results.

No one to my knowlege has made longtubes fit for this swap. 1 guy did for a 5.4 DOHC swap, but he cut them up and rebuilt them basically. Supposidly there are some in the works of being made though. You can use stock manifolds, or some short-tube headers. I am 99.9% positive the FRPP shorties will work.
