It won't fit under the stock hood. You'll need a bigger cowl hood. 5.4 engine can be found on ebay for good deals. You'll need the ECU,Harness, AC, power steering, all the accessories etc. It won't be cheap.

You will either have to get custom headers made or fab up your mid pipe to reach the headers.

First of all try this:

1. www.modularfords.com

2. www.modularfox.com

These sights are awesome for swapping mod motors into foxes or 5.4L into 94-04 cars. Sight #1 is the best!!

Second of all: You will need the 5.4L DOHC motor, the 5.4L ECM and it would be nice to get the engine harness as well. You will need to get the custom harness worked into your existing harness to make it run. The only thing that has the 5.4L DOHC is the Navigator. 99 was an option for the DOHC. 00+ is is standard. It would be nice to get the same ECM out of the same Navigator that the motor comes out of. There are many ID's but all might work with a tune. The most important thing is to get year specific. 00 motor, 00 ECM, 01 motor, 01 ECM. This is an expensive and labor intensive swap. Good luck and start in the early fall, because you may need all winter to do this.

Navi motors are expensive. I am in Michigan, and I sold a 01 Navigator to a shop in Staten Island New York for $2,200US dollars plus 250 shipping.

You could adapt your engine wiring harness to the 5.4, and get a tune. Im not positive but I think the cop wires need to be reversed and im not sure about the injector connectors. you may need to lengthen some wires.

1. you can use your pcm with a tune.

2. use your sensors

3. you must use an aftermarket intake. the ports are larger and nothing from 99+ will fit correctly.

4. http://www.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?t=867886

that link is by the father of HP 5.4 4v's.

5. an exhaust that will work for any kind of power is required. 4v cobra irons will fit, but hurt power. long tubes run 1500.00.

6. it will fit. but barely. clocking your brake booster buys a little space.

7. you need about 10,000.00 for revving it and making power. a stock navi only makes 260hp regardless of factory rating. 6000 rpm will hurt it just like mine.

8. if you can do it, nobody can screw with you. mild 5.4 4v's make 500hp. even low enders make 400hp.

good luck

9. get Al to do it for you.

thanks for the tips, I plan on putting a garrett 70mm turbo on the 5.4L when it goes in, but first i need to find 5.4L DOHC for a good price. so the stock nav 5.4 will not withstand high rpm? I was planing on keeping the engine internally stock with the turbo on it, what is the compression ratio of the stock nav 5.4L?

a navigator make only 260hp. or 225rwhp and a little more torque (312)

BOSS290 bone stock 385hp is average.

heads are where it's at with exhaust and intake taken care of.

with average(269cfm) lightly modified heads and .475" lift 224 duration @ .050 525 flywheel hp.

that requires at least 1 3/4" mid length headers. the intake must be equal to an aussie BOSS 290 with 9" runners. 10.5:1 CR.

forgings to turn to 7200. open exhaust with collector extensions.

with better stage heads porting lees radical will get you there. 315cfm-330cfm will make it much easier.

headers = 1500.00
intake = 3000.00
cams = 1200.00
forgings = 900.00
heads = 2600.00

tune = 600.00 (mph)

= 9800.00

unless you have help then it goes up from there.

there are a few guys building 5.4 3v all out turbo motors. they expect 800rwhp.
go to modular powerhouse dot com, and look in the conversions threads.

but they are still spending a fortune. heads forgings, intakes, exhaust, etc.

even an intakes like the ones i have made would cost rediculous money. i spent hundreds of hours getting it close to right.

tonights track will give me an idea how close i am coming to that.

I was going to use the sullivan intake, is this intake any good? also reichard racing makes a 4.6 to 5.4 4v Adapter Plates, so you can use your 4.6 Mustang manifold on your 5.4 and add only 1 inch of height to the intake,
so the stock internals cant take 10 psi?

would the 5.4L SOHC be easier to do and cheeper? would the 5.4L SOHC make the same power?

No, the 5.4 sohc would put out pretty close to the same HP as a 4.6 but gain 40-50tq. They are easier and cheaper though.

Bill-

If one wants to go FI with a 5.4, what about a lightning shortblock? At one time KarKraft.com had a lot of them for around 1500 I think...

if one goes forced induction with a 5.4 2v, the torque and hp is out of this world even mild.

a lightning had 360hp and 505 tq flywheel. throw boost at it and 600 rwtq is typical. but the problem is height. it's so tall no hood can clear it.

use a centri/lighning lower/96cobra upper instead and maybe it fits better.

using a 4.6 intake on a 5.4 is proven to do nothing but hurt it. low torque and low hp.

a 5.4 2v makes hp from low end. 302rwhp at 4700 and 360 rwtq is typical. but that's BUILT. heads, cams, headers, etc.

to make high rpm hp with a 5.4 2v seems to be impossible.

there is no intake for a 5.4 3v for hp.

sullivan is the only real choice for 4v. with NAVI heads.

in the end these guys are right... turbo the 4.6 2v and settle for 4350+ rwhp unless you are like me.....

i enjoy the agony of defeat. my current combo is good on the dyno, but worthless at the track.

i am at a loss for why it still will not perform at the track. i make max HP at 5700 and it leaves hard as hell. but the ET sucks

making good power on the 5.4 2v isn't impossible... not even close. It's easy. You just have to know what you're dealing with and address the shortcomings. hot cams and P&P heads and avoid adapter plates if you can.

we've seen as much as 340/340 NA on a 2v motor with streetable cams and stock compression. His intake wasn't the best and in some peoples opinion left a good 30-50hp on the table.
