As a citizen I am disgusted and appauled that there are hundreds of thousands of my brothers and sisters without food, potable water, medication, the dead are lying in the streets and anarchy is breaking out to the point of considering Marshall Law, and yet if this would have happened in a 3rd world nation, we would have been there in 2 days. Look at the relief response after the Tsunami.
The only thing I feel worse about is not being able to get to those people myself and provide first hand help.

If you have paid attention to the news and media, we ARE in war and have been for 30 months,, also we have shortage as well,,, and its not just about me not FEELIN like paying premium on gas,, If I had any other way to get around, I would!!! There are many factors that contribute to the current gas prices.
The only thing I can see that the government could responsibly do to curb the current prices would be to reduce or suspend the tax currently placed on gas. Don't hold your breath waiting for it to happen however.

Come on! You should know that asking for lowered taxes on ANYTHING is never a responsible thing(and way farfetched) to ask when you know the answer is gonna be no!!SP_51-F1 said:Sorry, I was commenting on the price cap idea. As you can see the goverment is more willing to dig into the reserves than lowering the taxes,,

Yea not. The president could just cap the prices at a certain amount over wholesale. Just cutting the gougers out. It's temporary. The kind of things presidents normally do in a national emergency. Just stop the idiots who marked up the pump price much higher even though their wholesale cost didn't justify it. Another option is conservation. If everyone started using 10-15% less fuel today then the demand curve will shift and the price will come back down. It's that simple. So, don't drive anywhere that you don't have to. Walk or cycle to the store or work if you have the option. Otherwise, if we continue to consume at the current rate, you can expect prices to approach $4 per gallon. Cheap gasoline is not a right and the government's charter doesn't include price control.
By the way, if you think it's bad now, wait until winter hits and the demand for heating oil increases.
