5 lug conversion. Why?

Besides the fact that it looks better for a sports or muscle car to have 5 lugs than 4, what is the practical reason for the swap, if there is one? I've seen a lot of stuff break, especially in the off road circles I run in, but I have yet to see lugs rip out. Ive seen broken wheels, bent or broken axles, grenaded trannies and drive lines, blown engines, exploded transfer cases, and the occasional differential that blows it gears out the tail end, but never stripped out lugs. Unless of corse it was when somebody torqued them WAY to high, it which case they get stripped before the thing goes anywhere.

you have more of a variety of wheels you can pick for your car and converting to rear disc is much easier since it all bolts right up when you have 5 lug.

i converted mine so that i would have a ton of rim choices.

also, when i first got the car like 5 years ago, my dad told me...... "if you ever get the chance to convert the rear drums to disc, do it." it stops good now.

I'd say choice of wheels would be #1... Never thought 5 lug looked better than 4 lug

I am doing it because:

I want Mach 1 rims on my LX Notch,which only come in 5 lug.

I also wanan convert my rear brakes to disk brakes,and it all bolts right up with a 5 lug setup.

If you are looking for a 5 lug conversion kit,go to http://www.50resto.com they have a good one for a few hundered bucks.

rims nowadays are almost always 5 lugs

I've broken studs. Never bothered to try the "hardened" studs.
