Can I drill or machine a 5 lug bolt pattern in a stock 4 lug axle?
Is the hub dimension the same 4 lug to 5 lug?
Thanks

I'm sure with the right machine or tools you can do anything, but if you took 2 left side axles from a ranger that will work for the rear. It sounds like a lot of work and then if your putting some good horsepower to the tires how long will the 28 spline axles hold up?

ranger axles are still 28 spline. It costs money to go 31 spline.

The splines in this case are irrelevant.

Drilling the axle flange is not a good idea. Way back i had a set up drums drilled for both 5 and 4 lug, some of the holes were pretty close to each other.
I'm sure you would weaken the axle flange by drilling 5 new holes in it.
Besides, if the measurements are even a little off, the whole thing is sure to be unbalanced.

Yes I'm aware of this. My point was if he is going to stay with 28 spline he may as well use Ranger axles. Like 2000xp8 said I would worry about the axles being weakened. I was just making a statement that if he was planning on doing some major work to the car he might want to think about upgrading to 31 spline axles. Everything cosst money, how much money would he spend if the axles come apart at 60 miles an hour and maybe its my family driving next to him when it happens. I am all for fabrication, and DIY but theres's a right place and a wrong place .sometimes it's better just to spend a little money

Ranger axles aren't that much money, for the cost of them I'd say it is better just to buy them instead of burning the time trying hack the original axles.

For the time invested, would be cheaper/safer to buy ranger axles
