Hey, quick question about changing the fluid in my T5.

I need to change it soon, and would like to go synthetic. To my knowledge, it is just running the stock fluid. The car has 167k on it, is it safe to change over? I want to change to try and get some more life out of it and make it run a little smoother.

If I can do this, what should I get? Mobile 1 atf? Royal Purple Syncromesh? Royal Purple ATF? Or maybe another? Thanks guys!

I have no idea what T-5's take. I just put the stock Mercon back in my T-45 when I replaced my clutch though. A lot of people use Royal Purple but it's expensive as hell. You get what you pay for.

Any good synthetic ATF would be fine, and although RP or Redline would probably be the best, it'll also cost you.

Go with Royal Purple.

If I can give a little bit of advice, i would drain it then put the plug back in.

REMOVE THE SHIFTER to refill it. Less mess, less waste and you know that you are getting the right amount back in.

I did it the old fashioned pump way and it sucked.

Fluid everywhere, i know that i put in enough. Just easier and i will do the shifter next time.

K, before I do it then, I think I'll pick up a short throw shifter.

I'm thinking either Steeda Tri ax or the Steeda sport shifter, which looks almost the same as the tri ax, but cheaper. Any thoughts?

Just wanted to give an update. I finally got around to changing the fluid in the tranny. I used Royal Purple Synchromax. It really smoothed out shifting too. This stuff is amazing, and I highly reccomend it to anyone with a 5 speed!

Did you put it in from the top? What shifter did you decide on?

My son put a Steeda tri-ax in his 2002 GT and had a lot of annoying vibration sounds coming up throught the handle. I have a B&M ripper shifter in my 2003 GT and it is super. Solid short throws, no missed 2nd to 3rd. Great shifter!

Yes, I did fill it from the top. WAY easier that way. But i didnt get a shifter yet, still trying to figure out what one I want. It's probably something that I'm going to wait till summer to get.
