5 speed swap ?

I'm swapping out my auto for a 5sp in my 91 lx 5.0. I have the 5 sp tranny and the new pedals in. I'm currently putting the steering column back in and ran into something I'm not too sure what to do with it. The car came with a B&M slap shifter. A cable ran from the shifter to the steering column. Do I remove the whole cable assembly or does it have to stay on there and the cable have to been in a certain position?
Please help...

That cable is for the shifter in an auto car. You can unbolt the whole thing, you do not need it anymore. I just did the swap in the spring to my notchback, I know exactly what you are talking about.
