I got rid of weak ass 56k way back in 1998 when cable internet was first offered in my town.. I ordered the first day it was offered.

Man, I remember rockin' a 14.4 with a POS Tandy computer. At the time, it was soooooo damn cool. Today, half the people on this forum have no idea about a 14.4. Then when the 28.8 came out ... whooo weee.

Now there is no way I would even use them to check my email. Cable modem or faster FTW!!!

try 9600 baud modem

I was the second house in my town to get a cable modem in 1996,.. since then I wont even turn on a pc with anything slower. we just went up to a 10meg connection

I remember 14.4, and I'm just 18 Dropped the 56k (along with POS AOL lmao) in '99 - got a business class cable line 8mbit/1mbit dl/ul up until this week when I moved; now I'm thinking 8mbit/768kbit for about half as much as the business line

My laptops are still set up for dial-up. I use it when the DSL is down. It's not often, but when you are addicted, you keep a backup plan in place.

My first modem in 1992 was a 9600 baud and it was a smokin' piece of equipment, let me tell ya!
It was the size of a shoebox and weighed about 12 pounds.

I remember my PC had a 33.6k modem at the time when 28.8k was considered fast. I thought I was the chit. I remember paying $500 for my first internal SCSI CD burner (8x which was lightning fast at the time).

I still have 56K at my house.

I live out in the sticks.
No Cable.
To far away from the nearest phone tranferstation for DSL.
And our satelite provider wants to much $ for net service.

So I just abuse my office network connection.

Try 2400 baud Hayes modem trying to connect to BBS on my dinosaur 286.

That's old.

Who here even remembers the days where BBS was cool?

I never went to 56k, stuck with 33.6 when all that 56k flex versus X2 crap was going on then went to cable a year or two later.
