Finally got my new moly 6 point cage completed and got the car back to the garage today. It was actually completed about a month and a half ago but I was not happy with how the front bars were installed so I had them cut out and new bars installed that are more friendly to get in and out.

I just have to paint the bars, get new carpet and put everything back together. Here are a few pictures, car is dirty...

:) well thats a good reason then. Def pad those bars then and make sure they are belten in tight! Wish my dad had a set up like yours when I was a kid...

Instead he gave me a limp 289.. when he handed it down to me!

My 13 year old son is frothing at the mouth thinking he is getting the 347 when I build a new big inch Windsor. Ain't no way, if I had this motor when I was 16 or 17 I would be dead..... He will be getting a mildly built 289 in a 66 4 door Comet Caliente.....

I would probably be dead too...good decision. Lucky my little girl wont care about high horsepower motors when she's old enough to drive...or will she?

do you think it's safe to have a steel bar right in front of your face? the back seats don't have shoulder retraints, so his face is headed right for the bar in an accident.

Paul, you shouldn't judge without being informed. I appreciate your concern guys but I am a father of four that takes very good care of all my kids.

When the back seat is in the car there are two very safe car seats (with shoulder restraints) in the car.

When the twins are in the car we don't drive on the highway, I take them on cruises in town at about 25 MPH. (they do like it when I spin the tires a little)

I don't put any of my kids in harms way, they where helmets at horseback riding lessons and when they ride their bikes.

Any other advice / comments on child safety?

Any other advice / comments on child safety?

As the father of a four year old I get the same from my Dad.

Him, "You don't have rear shoulder straps do you?"

Me, "Well, the five point harness in the car seat with the dedicated anchor through the package tray is probably safer than a crappy aftermarket three-point belt any day of the week."

Him, "Well, he should be in a booster seat now anyways...."

....and so on. I can't win, so I don't try.

Washmo, I dont think anyone here meant anything in a condesending way..Just looking out for the saftey of your friends/family. We all know that you probably realized everything mentioned, and that you took care of them already.
Everyone stay safe, and enjoy yourselves.
Mike

i wasn't critiquing your child rearing abilities, just wondering why you were worried about their leg room and not their faces.
time flies, soon they'll be out of the child seats. if your stang has 3 point seat belts in the back, then it's a moot point, but who has 3pts in the back?
a harness bar makes the rear seats unsafe.

My kids get a ride in this car just a couple of times a year and it has now had the cage installed for about two whole days. Don't insult me by saying I'm worried about their leg room and not their faces, that just doesn't sit well with me...

If I still choose to let them ride in this car after they are out of seats then I will make sure it is all safe and sound. I will put in two more racing harnesses if I have to. Maybe I'll just buy another "less dangerous hot rod" They didn't care for my Saleen Extreme though so I'll have to take some test drives with them.

In the meantime, I'm done explaining myself. Have a great Christmas.

Phew. I knew it was Moly, but was hard to tell it was tigged from the other photos.
Hmm, thought you already had one.Eh. How much longer before it runs again ? Or are you one of the guys that has to wait for weather ?:D

Why didnt you make it an 8point by putting 2 diagonal legs from the main hoop toward the trans tunnel?

The legs are to tie the suspension pick ups to the roll bar. Most cars the main hoop sits on top or close enough that plates welded to the floor tie the suspension to the rollbar. Cars with narrow frame rails benefit from point 7&8, but a stock chassis would only tie into flimsy sheet metal.

Comments about safety are real! Street cars with roll bars are more dangerous in a street crash than cars w/o them. In a racing accident belts are tighter and a helmet protects your head. Driver/passengers can hit the bars with unbelievable force, even with seatbelts, and the bars do not flex. The way it was put I would have been offended too, but the danger is real.

I had a cage before the car was painted but it was one you ordered and welded in, it was cut out when the paint job was done. This cage was completed about a month and a half ago but I was not happy with the front bars so I had it re-done and just got it back yesterday.

Yes I am in St. Louis and there is not a track open around here until spring. Now that I have it back I am going to start all my other winter projects, gears (4.11), fix an oil leak and put the interior back together. I'll be running at the track by March.
