How come you decided not to go with kickers to the subframes? I thought those where the tubes that make your car react real nice like.

Paul, you shouldn't judge without being informed. I appreciate your concern guys but I am a father of four that takes very good care of all my kids.

When the back seat is in the car there are two very safe car seats (with shoulder restraints) in the car.

When the twins are in the car we don't drive on the highway, I take them on cruises in town at about 25 MPH. (they do like it when I spin the tires a little)

I don't put any of my kids in harms way, they where helmets at horseback riding lessons and when they ride their bikes.

Any other advice / comments on child safety?

Is the world a more dangerous place now than it was when I was a kid growing up during the mid-60s to graduating high school in the mid-80s?

In 1970, I was 4 years old. I remember my brother &
I going places with my mom & dad when no one wore a seat belt back then, and we are all still here today.

My friends and I rode our bikes all over the place and we had plenty of wrecks, but none of us ever got a head injury out of it.

I wear my seat belt because I realize I have a better chance of surviving a crash with it on than with it off. However, I don't feel it's the federal government's place to tell me I have to have it on.

Seatbelts in a vehicle is smart. Having a helmet on and protective gear while riding a bike can help limit injury if you take a spill, but I believe it's a bit overboard to require it.

There's nothing wrong with safety and being safe, but I believe that people and government have, and are going, way overboard with it all, to the point of being rediculous.

I think washmo66 probably has enough sense to properly restrain his children in his Mustang, while they have a nice time together and taking a fun trip in the car.

Wow, I missed this thread. I wonder why he didn't line the main hoop with the back edge of the door? That would have put it at the front edge of the seat, but it would have been inline with the window, makes it a little more stealthy looking. Quality looks good though. I think Chudik probably meant to say, $?, at least that's my best guess.

I haven't been able to get ahold of Gene on the grille. I'm guessing by now you've got a new one.

I'm also guessing Paul doesn't have kids, but his interests include B.A.S.E. jumping. I'm not quite sure if that gives me assurance that he has a pretty good handle on safety or not, LOL!!! I don't think he meant it that way, but as a parent, I can understand your reaction.

2 kids, but you're right about me not having a handle on safety.
the rollbar looks good, though. did you use the 'hammered' paint?
mine should be going in next month (no kicker bars for me either).

Yes, its the brush on hammered paint in black and I was impressed with how well it turned out. Everyone can just drop the kid safety comments, I was in a bad mood when I initially responded and probably sounded a little harsh and I know that nobody (including Paul) meant anything by their comments. Let get back to focusing on whats important, my car

Paul - Glad to hear your getting a cage, that thing about running top 9's is a serious hot rod and we shouldn't ignore safety.

You need a CAGE, which needs kickers. Why don't you want it ? I'm making a cage right now. but didn't make much sense to try to hide it when it would be hidden from ONE angle. The rest of it in there will give it away.

actually you need the kickers with a rollbar, too (if the main loop is welded to the floor, then the kickers must weld to the subframe).
i'm not using the kickers for the same reason as washmo66- it's a street car. i decided against the cage also.

Very nice install. Im about to get a 6 pt put in on my 65. Can you tell me what kit that is? Also can you tell me how you painted it( detailed) and what you used to paint it? Do you know if there is a way to still run the rear speakers?

I'll post some pictures up later, I still have to put in all the padding but I do have my seats and harnesses back in.

Mustangguy289 - It's not a kit, it's a custom bent 1 3/4" moly tube cage done by a local guy here in MO. All I did to paint it was run over it with some fine sandpaper to remove any surface rust that had formed (It took me a month or so between install and painting) and then I wiped it down with alchohol and brush painted it with Rustoleum Hammered paint. Comes in a few colors and you can buy it Lowes, Home Depot or the Wal.....

wash,
is your harness the wrap around type? reason i'm asking is last night i discovered my bolt in harness was WAY too long. it drops down to the middle of the seat when i throw it over my shoulder.

I had the same problem as I bought the bolt in because my fabricator welded in some bungs for me to just bolt the tabs in behind the seat. i didn't like it so I took the tabs off the belts and made them into wrap around (last night). I will post a bunch of pics this afternoon and you will see what I did, it turned out good and it is completely safe as they won't budge. I'm trying to get some stuff together for my tax appt right now I think you get my drift as to what I did and all the excess hangs behind the seat.

I'll post some pics in a bit.

Thanks. Any hints as to how to keep paint from getting on any interior pieces? I was thinking of just taping everything off and being careful.
