My wifes 06 explorer has the 6 speed automatic, I was just curious if anybody has tried to put one in the s197 yet? Obviously it would mate to the 4.6 since both are the 3v 4.6....just food for thought.

Is that dual overdrive? If that is the case why bother.

Better gas mileage, maybe? I would LOVE to have a 6 speed manual double overdrive in my Mustang. Getting close to 30mpg would be awesome instead of getting 23-24 on the highway.

It is probably a much larger transmission, making it a hard install. Plus then you would need a custom driveshaft. Probably wouldn't be worth it after all the money you would spend.

The dual overdrive would allow you to run a very steep gear and still have decent highway mileage.

I'm sure a few will prove me wrong but the days of swapping transmissions like this are over... everything is so heavily integrated and controlled by the cars ECM that it would be near impossible w/o finding a standalone controller

I bet you could swap in a T-56 much more easily.

That new Lexus (ISf or something like that) that is coming out has 8 or 9 gears I think. I can't remember exactly, all I know is I was able to do a dyno pull with it at the LA Auto show. Well over 400 hp, it is time for Ford to up the notch yet again....
