Route666, on a later model car I would agree, but keep in mind there is about 1/4 mile distance between the rear of the '65 hood and the windshield. Cowl inductors and even the ole NASCAR boys have their low pressure openings pretty close to the windshield.

However, I have not had the ole girl in a wind tunnel so perhaps you are correct.

Historic,
Thanks for the tips. I will be on the lookout for additions to your webpage. I have enjoyed your low buck approach to racing. It makes it seem so much more reachable.

No worries Historic, just giving you something to think about.

The only test I could think of that didn't involve a wind-tunnel would be attaching a smoke bomb under the hood and going for a test lap. This could be dangerous though. And I don't know where you'd get a smoke bomb.

I think we came up with "aerodynamic as a brick" the last time this question was asked.

I was re-reading The HHGTTG yesterday and it and your brick comment inspire me to offer the following observation:

"The early Mustang slices through the air just like how a brick doesn't."

The high pressure under the hood is greater than, the front of the windshield area. IT's a relavitivity thing.
Lifting the rear of the hood was done to cool, under hood, the early Paxton blower cars.

I wonder if yarn taped in the area where the hood meets the cowl would tell a story. Might have to have a chase car to see it. I've also seen drops of oil used to determine airflow and direction. The key is to not let any air into the engine compartment unless it goes through the radiator.
