Just picked up a 2+2 today. Just would like to get some info about it like what rear end might it have and stock HP and torque. It has an auto tranny and i would like to put a 4 speed in there. Has anyone done this? and how hard would it be to put the clutch in and how about puthing the shifter boot bracket where the center council floor shifter is. I mean would I have to cut anything or just get a bracket or fabricate one? thanks

just get us the dataplate numbers. if its a c code with a 2brrl carb stock is 200hp, the A code with the 4 brrl carb is 225 hp. Rear end is a ford 8 inch. Prolly 2.83 or mine had a 3.00 LSD.

at first i thought this thread was asking me a question lol, my sn matches the title perfect.

Congratulations! The best body style ever, IMHO.

Forget the 4 speed, go with a Borg Warner T-5 or a Tremec 5 speed. Some people on this board may even try to push you toward a T-56. I would hunt the junk yards for the clutch pedal assembly or just go straight to a hydraulic set-up. The gear shift will use the same hole as your floor shifter, no need to cut anything. If you have a center console, you will need to get a different insert.

Here's a couple of links that may be helpful.

Good luck!

Here's the door data

65A D 26 17U 35 2 6

If you could let me know what color it was originaly would be great. I have a feeling that it was painted cause the data plate was painted over. Thanks

it is hard to believe it had a 200 1v in there. I was looking through some data plate decoding in a mag and I didn't think that it was right about the 200. I know the engine badge on the front fender had been changed but he had the old 289 badges too. Now it seems I have to restomod it. Thanks for the info and now after all that I see the decoder site down in your sig.

Does the VIN on the fender aprom match the one on the door? I doubt it does, sounds like someone has changed the door over the years.

How many lugs do your wheels have 4 or 5? Do like Ronstang said and check the apron, door and title. Make sure they all match.

Flexia,

I think Ronstang is right, some one has replaced the door at some point. The door data plate is from a coupe, you said this is a fastback. Check under the hood, on top of the drivers side on the engine bay, there should be a VIN number stamped there - Give us those numbers.

Well I checked and I can't read the the first 3 numbers on the vin under the hood but the last numbers match the title. so here it is 5F09C722441. Is there anyway to find the color from that. We got it at an acution and the owner had died and his daughter said she remeberd that when he had the windsheld out it was green under the molding. So it could be still be Dynasty Green? Thats a lot guys. Oh yeah it has 5 lugs.

The bad news is that you can't find the color just from the VIN.

The good news is that you have an original V8 car that had the door swapped from a 6 cyl coupe.

Its a pity that you lost your data tag info with the replaced door, but I'd rather have an original V8 car of unknown origin than a well documented V8-swapped I6. btw, your car was originally equipped with a C code 2bbl 289. Just as an illustration of how much a car can change over the years, my car has had at least to different exterior colors (blue, black), three different interior colors (blue, red, black) and now has a C4 auto (originally a 3 spd manual). All these different versions never made it worth any less to me.

Edit: oh yeah, and where are the pics!?

only thing that confuses me about the coupe to fastback door swap is, if im not mistaken Im pretty sure the windows and, unless im really off, the doors are a slightly different between the coupe and fastback????

The doors are identical. The windows are different.

If you have a rusty fastback door, it'd be no problem to swap the fastback window into a donor door, regardless of body style.
