Yes, the top of the tank is the floor of the trunk. Disconnect all the filler lines, and the fuel gauge sender with feedline. There is usually sealant between the tank rim and the floor of the trunk, so it may be difficult to pull once all the bolts are out. I used a prybar to gradually work mine loose starting at a corner. It will come out the trunk opening easily, by turning it 90 degrees, once it is loose from the floor.

You should spend the few extra bucks for a tank with the drain plug... Getting ALL the gas out before you remove the sending is a royal PIA, in my opinion.

The messages above are pretty much right on the money, except I've yet to see one with the sealer on it... BTW... get rid of the gas you have in the tank now. If you've had to clean/change fuel filters, I wouldn't want that crap in my car... also use this opportunity to blow out your entire fuel system. oh yea... be sure to put vasoline on the new fuel sender gasket to prevent it from warping and leaking. Don't be intimidated the hardest part about this job is getting the old gas out of the tank!

Good Luck!

I'd recommend installing a metal plate instead of the cardboard one to protect the passengers from the tank/trunk area.
