65 gauge cluster removal...

i took all 8 screws out and was able to tilt it downwars a little bit but thats it. i have about a 2inch gap. from this gap i seen a thick black cable thats connected to the back of my cluster. the only problem is, is that i cant reach it!! what else can i do?

Wiggle it up and down. That long black cable is your speedometer. You have 2 options, you can disconnect it at the tranny (easiest) and it will move forward, or you can reach way back with a wrench and try your luck at removing it from the back of the cluster. It will come right out. =D

what do you mean by that??
...and where exactly on the tranny is it located?

It's in the tailshaft of the transmission. It's 1 7/16 bolt that holds it in, I think. You'll see the cable going into the tailshaft of the transmission. Pull that bolt and tab out, pull straight out on the cable, and the speedo gear will pull right out.

I had the same issue when rewiring my dash.
I was able to reach my arm up under the dash by laying on my back with my head in the floor and reaching up behing the cluster and unscrewing the speedo cable by hand from the cluster.

take your steering wheel off you will be able to get in there better.
