You can buy a heavy gauge wiring harness or a kit to build such a harness that is set up for modern high wattage H4 halogen bulbs, has relays and is triggered off one side of your existing factory harness. The relays in new harness take the load off your interior lamp switch and factory harness and provide full power to the lamps straight from the battery. You replace your old one piece lens/bulb assemblies with lenses (Cibie, Hella) of same diameter that receive the separate replaceable H4 bulbs. Daniel Stern for example is one seller of these items.
