You could do it without pulling the quaters but you risk warping the quarters. They sell flares for thise purpose though. I think you'll have enough room for tires with a minitub to fit anything. Since your moving the frame rails and probably going with a 4 link just tack everything in place and adjust when you get a set of wheels to mock up with.

The only reason for flaring the fenders is that I would like some deep dish wheels for my car and that swap would allow me to put some 315s or larger back there. I will already have something like 15 inches of space in the rear wheel housings but some flares too would be awesome. If mustbereel would like to comment more on his swap, that would be awesome. Is it possible to do this without taking the quarters off? does anyone have any idea how i would go about it?

My original idea was to cut the quarter panel wheel opening in a larger arc to clear the 67/68 outer housing and then build a flare to blend the two together. I even purchased Maier Racing fiberglass flares but didn't use them. I'm sure somebody who is good at sheet metal work could fabricate a nice steel flare to do the job. My talent seems to be in making things work in ways they weren't intended rather than fabricating from scratch.

Since I was replacing both quarters I decided to try some test fitting to see how well the 65 quarter fit over the 68 wheel housing. As it turned out it only took a little modification in the fender lip area and some extra fill where the quarter panel meets the rocker panel. It may be possible to cut the quarter panel away from the rocker and trunk drops and squeeze a new outher housing in place of the old but that sounds more difficult than what I did.

In the end I gained about 1.5" while still retaining the original flare.

I am working on something similar for my '67

I have already modded the rear quarters. The original objective was to get 315-35-17's under the car.

I have done some very careful measuring, but I can't get backspacing in the 17 x 10.5" newer mustang wheels (usually 6.9" backspacing) that will work without the use of a 3/4" - 1" spacer. Custom rims would have to be used. I don't know how low I would be able to go with this tire.

I don't really want to use a spacer that big.

If I use 10 x 18" wheels with 6.3" backspacing, I can make those work. The tires will have to be narrower (295-35 0r 30 -18's) The advantage is that I can really slam the mustang to the ground. The cost is more to do this also.

I have to decide pretty soon.
