Okay the motor and the tranny in my 85 is shot. But i have the 289 and 4 speed in my 65. Im gonna build the 302 and swap in a t-5 for the 65. But anyways do you guys think i would run into any problems with the swap into the 85. Im gonna be racing the car at the local circle track and i am not gonna have enough money by april to rebuild the 302. Any input would be great.

it should work and be nice but i am not sure on the clutch linkage of the old tranny. the driveshaft may need to be custom too. other than that it will work. i love the way 289's sound.

that's not a legal swap, besides the fact, those motors are WAY underpowered, imo you're wasting your time.

underpowered your crazy. it has just as much power as a 87-93 stock to stock. plus mines not stock and i never lost a race in my 65 to a 5.0. But im the only stang out there and anymore help would be appreciated.

bs. Unless you have the rare factory 4 bbl higher compression 289, they are dogs.

FYI, they were rated around 210 horse, but don't forget, the way they rated horsepower changed in 72, so that 210 horse realistically became 140-150. The old 289's/302's were easily 75 horse behind stock for stock than an 87-93 5.0 motor.
