Replaced the whole front end on my mustang about 1500 miles ago. New coil springs, new spring perches, new upper arm shafts, new upper and lower arms, new larger diameter front sway bar, new polyurethane bushings, new shocks, new struts, everything replaced. Did it at the shop that my buddy works at. Took about 4-5 hours witha few beers mixed in there! I currently have 17"x8" rims all around with 245/40s. Bought all the parts from mustangs plus, which I probably wont deal with ever again after this!
well here's my problem, 1500 miles later and I broke one of the passenger side upper shaft mounting bolts taking an off ramp at moderate speed (about 50mph on a pretty wide bank) nothing extrenous at all! The spring shot off the perch and was held in there by the shock. had to have it towed home. the bolt that broke is pressed in the shaft and connects through into the engine bay. I called mustang plus and they said that they've never heard of that problem happening in the million+ years they have combined on mustangs. whatever... they said it was probably a defective bolt and, of course, they have no warranty on the parts they sell. fine. I bought another shaft with the bolt pressed in and took the whole thing apart and replaced it all the way back to the point where I reinstall the coil spring. But I cant get the damn thing in there!!
What I need to know is if anyone out there has the 620 front coil springs and what tool they used to get them compressed? I need specifics! I bought a coil compressor (recommendation from mustangs plus!!!)that goes inside the spring and has 4 curved legs that wont hold under the heavier spring pressure. of course it doesnt work. Then I went to a set of side mount clamps that are to big to fit inside the shock tower with the compressed spring. Obviously Id go back to the shop where we did it but too bad it is no longer there and I cant find a spring clamp similar to the one I originally used. so im reaching out to good old stangnet to provide me a solution. as always any help is appreciated.

One of two things happened..FAR too much torque on that stud (doubtful) or it is some cheap Chinese made P.O.S. (much more likely). I'd have the Rockwell hardness of the stud tested (do ALL of them) to see if it meets standards..which
I doubt it will. Then you send a copy of the test results to Mustangs-Plus and demand your money back then buy some good Moog units.

If that doesn't work we can all send e'mails to them informing them that we will never spend our money with them again.

Plus you can notify SEMA of what is going on.

Good luck.

Cheap chinese bolt. I agree with you. The original bolts never had a problem with 40 yeaers of wear and tear. They just dont make them like they used to.

Same springs. 620 coils. I think they were a 1" drop. Maybe 1.5". But my 40 year old springs were worn and probably even lower than these but thats besides the point. Obviously I've got the front end hanging, Should I have the upper ball joint separated when installing the coils? Thats not how it says in the manual I'm looking at (and thats not how I did it the first time). Wouldnt that make the upper ball joint nearly impossible to connect under the force of the coil? (Now you've really go me thinking)

Are they the lowering 620 springs? I have Mustangs Plus 620 lowering springs on my 65' and didn't have to compress them to get them in place. Just let the control arm hang free and they slid right in.

Ditto that, push down a bit on the control arm and they should pull out with minimal effort. As a side note I have the mustangs plus complete suspension on my car for 8 years and have no problems what so ever.
