66 Unisteer out tie rod (stupid question)

I know this might seem like a stupid question but I have to ask. I took my old steering linkage off and it had the tie rod sleeve for alignment adjustment with it. The unisteer rack came with outer tie rods and jam nuts but there's no sleeve. The tie rods obviously will screw onto the steering arms attached to the rack but that would imply the tie rods have to be taken off the hub to make adjustments. Is that correct ? Am I missing something. Very close to having this done this weekend and just want to get it right. I know I will have to take it to the alignment shop after it's all done.

The shaft of the OTR usually turns in the OTR, the nut just locks it. The shaft spins in the rack. At least, this is with typical R&P.

That's just it....there is no pin or anything to rotate inside the OTR. It's one solid piece with threads. The threads will be it in or out but it has to be detached from the spindle to do it..... It is a UNISTEER rack (assuming that makes a difference)

Hmmm… loosen the locknut, and turn the shaft. No instructions with the kit?

That's the only thing I can see.... If someone has a Unisteer rack for a 66 please let me know.

Yes, i have a unisteer, and there is just a jam nut and tie rod end.
be careful that you have enough threads on each side. i think i was only able to get 1/2 - 3/4" of thread contact.

You just screw your tie rods on the ends of the rack. I have the unisteer on the 69. I had to cut the ends off the tie rod ends with a hack saw to give me a little more adjustment. The alignment shop will turn the rod on on the rack to adjust your tow in and out. Make sure you have it fairly close before you put your tie rod end in your spindle. Then tighten your nut.

The shaft that the outer tie rod end threads onto 'spins' in the end of the rack. I get the toe set as close as I can get it by screwing the tie rod end on the shaft, the finally putting the tie rod end in the spindle and then using the shaft to actually fine tune it, then use the jam nut to secure it. On the unisteer, you will see some flats cast into that shaft about midways, a cresent wrench will fit that and that's how you make the adjustment.
