My tranny has not been shifting from 1st to 2nd when I use my B&M megashifter, I adjusted the cable, checked vacumm lines, and finally decided to tair down my valve body. A few months back, I installed a transgo shift kit, I was told that I may have lost the check ball that goes on top of the valve body, Does the 66 have a ball that goes on top? If so, i definetly am not seeing one. thanks

Mike

Also, anyone know the inch pounds everything is supposed to be secured at?

well I took my valve body to my work and the 3 mechanics there said they were sure that it had at least 6 check balls. They sent me to a Lee Myles tranny place, the guy there said that the "green dot" c-4 doesnt have check balls, and that the shift kit im using would still function as a regular green dot just makes the shifts harder. Soo basically I spent 180 on a B&M megashifter and I cant shift the gears manually. The guy at Lee Myles said I can get a 67-68 valve body if I want to shift manually or leave it in drive for auto. Any thoughts here? My original problem for all of you that dont know, is when I go into 1st then into second, the tranny still stays in first and doesnt shift into 2nd. but when I put it into Drive or the 3 on the megashifter, it will finally shift into 2nd and then 3rd... Maybe my cable is way off, Park, Reverse, Nuetral and Drive seem fine, but i dunno.

Yea... you have a check ball in the upper valve body... It wouldn't be the cause of your 1-2 shift problem though. Are you sure you drilled the right place when you did the shift kit?

Im positive I drilled the right hole, and the guy at Lee Myles was 100% positive about there being no check ball. Any other thoughts?

I was looking at my 1966 Motor's Manual when I responded... You might check for too much torque on the valve body. That could possibly keep the manual valve closed or hung up (use 10-12 inch pounds), but thats a longshot. Consider ordering a new valvebody from TCI, or another vendor, that will give you all the shift options you may want. The stock valvebody on pre-67 C4s are junk to begin with.

Ok, this valve body from TCI states that it is for 1970 and later, will it fit my 1966 C-4?

Keep looking... thats not the one you want for the 66. You can get the whole C4 racing tranny for $750... you'll need a new torque converter, but you'd probably want that anyway. Pretty good tranny for the money..

Check around transmission shops... they can even just fix up the one you have now. A hundred bucks would be more than enough, or offer to sweep floors for a few days..
