i was told my 67 coupe i am getting needs new exhaust, can anyone make suggestions? I am looking for loud when you romp on it, and decent on the highway at 70mph. Its got a 68 302 motor and c4. Try to stay around $400.

It's a taste thing. I vouch for the flows: common yes, but I haven't heard anything that beats it on a 5.0 With an H-pipe the 40s are pretty loud, rumbley and a little metallic, I love em. I've heard a lot of good things about spintech too...but I've heard they're LOUUUUD.

Everything looks nice, but it is not on the car yet. For the price if I have to get different mufflers, I will still be doing good. Comes with hanger clamps everything. No welding and only simple hand tools needed.

New pipes w/H from the manifolds back and a set of Flowmaster Delta Flow 50's will get you in there under $400. The DF 50's cruise fairly queit and rock when you go WOT.

I like my exhaust, but I am gonna get a X pipe here and run the pipes all the way to the rear. The interior sound and resination is starting to get to me.

I got some Flowmaster Delta Flow 40 series and custom pipes bent all for 350.00. Sounds great and the interior noise level isn't as bad as the regular 40 series...but sounds pretty good when you get on it.

Hard to argue against Flows, they are so popular and are widely acknowleged by community members.

Buuuut...

I for one don;t want to sound like ~30% of the cars and trucks at the local staurday night parking lot. I also don;t really care for that metalic sound that so many others like. I don;t mind them being loud at WOT but I kind of like them mello at idle. I also prefer the tones to be as low (pitch not volume) as possible.

I chose magnaflows for mine based on sound clips I've heard, but be carefull using sound clips to decide. There are so many folks who have recorded their own cars that two identical setups can sound different on the WAV/MP3 file, this is based on the recording techniques and hardware as much as anything. I found a site once and lost the bookmark where they tested many popular mufflers on the same car on the same rack with the same technique. I'll see if I can google for it.

Does the coupe already have headers on it, or stock cast manifolds?

Im running Magnaflows on my 65 and my 67......

Quiet when your cruising and gets loud when you open it up....you control the volume with your foot......

They sound a little deeper then flowmasters, and dont have the metallic sound, which I personally dont like.

not to mention the straight through design for more ponies for your pony

That is going to make a difference as pipes to bolt on to headers will be too short for a stock manifold setup. Not a huge deal, as you can have the muffler shop fab in some pipes to make up the difference, but something to consider and allow for in the $ budget. This would be as good a time as any to add headers.

My performance exhaust (collectors back) cost $400 for custom bent 2.25 tubing. Mufflers are Dynomax SuperTurbos. No x pipe. The exhaust noise rumbles when engine started (cammed engine) and is throaty through all gears. If you cruise in fifth at freeway speeds the engine noise settles down to a respectible drone but does not completely quiet. Its too noisy for stereo listening except at higher volume levels. FlowMasters I've heard are even more noisy. If I had to do it over again, I'd search for something with a bit less noise and drone. Of course, I'm an old timer now and real noise grates on my sensibilities.
