Hi everyone here at stangnet, I have a 1967 Mustang with a 289,dual exhaust . My engine is all stock, except for my edelbrock carb. 4 barrel. Well I want to know some suggestions on how to power up my 289, its a daily driver but I want some mean muscle for it. so what would you suggest that I should do with it to power up. I know the 289 is a very versatile engine so hook me up with some suggestions on what you would do. Thank you for your heip!!!

There's a saying; "speed costs money how fast do you want to go"; But I'll change that in how much do you want to spend?

From a stock engine you don't want to get too radical without blowing the bottom end. So you're limited to a moderate cam, heads, intake, headers and exhaust. A different 3rd member will make you even seem to have more power.

Has the motor/transmission ever been rebuilt? How long ago? No use doing too much and finding out the bottom is trashed and just about ready to give out. I also list the transmission because it's got to handle that power also.

You can spend anything from several hundred to $10000 or more if you go really exoctic. More info on your goals please.

As far as the motor is concerned, buy the best heads you can afford and I would leave the rest of the internals alone for a daily driver. Put some 3.55s out back and go with a positive action unit. Then possibly look into getting a converter if you have a c4.

aluminum intake, tri-y's and posi gear will do wonders. Really woke up my 289. Even w/ stock heads you can get them to run low 14's maybe 13's, just got to get creative, you good slap some 1.6 roller rockers on the heads. I highly recommend a electric fan as well. Got mine for cheap on ebay and has been one of the best mod's i did to mine. Throw a petronix in for now if you still have points that helps as well. Also you can recuvrve the dizzy and play w/ the timing, that's pretty much free hp..my .02.
