I am having a return hose problem. New hose from PS repairs - just had pump rebuilt - with new hose and clamp. Appears to be proper type and diameter. Leaks at the bottom clamp by the valve regardless of clamp pressure. Before I take it back to the shop and make them fix it, is there any secret as to hose length or lap length over the steel tube that anyone has found eliminates this problem. Is there a lip on the tube that they may have clamped over? Any advice is appreciated.

I believe this is a somewhat common problem on our classic Mustangs. A friend of mine has a 68 and a 70 and they both have had reoccuring power steering leaks etc.

That is part of the reason I am leaving manual steering on my 65.

Thanks. I suspect the return hose may have been cut a little too short and is pulling on the bottom connection when the engine revs. Does anybody have the Ford spec (cut length and i.d.) available? Engine is 289. Thanks

I don't know the answer to your question. Maybe someone else does. If not, you could email one of the Mustang parts places and ask them how long the hose is. Find the part number in their catalog and then email them. That might work?

Just try geting a new hose from a local parts house. The Ford shop manual wont say how long the hose needs to be, it will only tell you how to replace it.
