As one of my last remaining projects before I get this car back on the road for some summer cruising, I need to rebuild the Power Steering Cylinder.

I've been looking through the posts because I know someone mentioned doing this, but I can't find it. I've never messed with it so I wanted to know of any tips or things I should know before getting involved with this work tomorrow night. From what I remember from the post I read before, it wasn't too bad. Looking underneath my car yesterday as I was replacing brake calipers, it looks like I'm going to be wrestling with some old bolts (I don't have access to air tools, so it will definitely be a fight).

Mine is leaking like crazy, so this is a must rebuild before I start doing some longer drives.

if your takiing about the cylinder, it can't be rebuilt by you. if your talking about the control valve, here is a link to some info, but nothing in detail.

if i were to ever do this, my first stop would be oick a part, not for a used on, but to disassemble and play with. there are at least 50 out there right now. i would go in take it apart, see what im in for and leave it there. then at least i'd have experance with it.

hope that makes sence to you. anyway sorry i couldn't help more.....

Why is the cylinder not rebuildable by me? (I know I am dangerous with a wrench but give me some credit) :D

I bought the following kit from MustangsUnlimited: Rebuild Kit,Power Steering Cylinder 64/70 Item No: PP5110K 01

I know someone here had recently done this and said afterwards that it wasn't too bad. Am I mistaken? I was hoping to tackle this project this weekend after I get my heater core job finished. The power steering cylinder is the last bit I need to get my car out for some summer drives. I'm dying with it in the garage on these sunny days :(

According to the article it's pretty straight forward,,,,,,,, unless you run into complications. i.e. internal spools in the control valve can be rusted, the cylinder shaft can be scored and not seal, the ballsted area of the control valve can be too worn to be rebuilt. Good luck
