What does the 67 mustang ribbed tail light panel actually look like on the car. Is it painted black, or body color, is it just polished aluminum? I would like to see some pics from anyone who has them. I have a 68 and saw a 67 on Barrett Jackson and it had a chromed panel on it. $700.00 to have it chromed and then whatever the panels cost you!! Really sharp though. Has anyone used the reproduction panels, are they good or not? Thanks in advance. Wigracer

I didn't know there were repros.

I haven't seen enough cars with them installed, but I think they stay plain.

Only one I ever saw was painted the body color. One of the classic Stang suppliers had these in repro's awhile back for around $700. Always wanted one on the 67 I had but they were scarce back then.

They are usually a dark charcoal grey. I have a set of original ones, the repops are not as cleanly cast.

I have seen them painted body color, black, grey, or some type aluminum or natural metal color. They usually look the best in a color that contrasts the body color.

The ones on my car are black but I can’t say what they where originally. This is a picture I took the day I brought her home before the bath and cleaning.

mine are repos from a fastback since i have a california special decklid. i got them from california mustang. they wern't the greatest quality but when i got a few coats of semi-flat black on them they ended up looking fine.

i honestly love the way they look. i would have never paid the 350 bucks to get them but my dad gave them to me as a gift. i think it's great because it's an extremely rare option that you definitely don't see every day.

Worth mentioning, for anyone looking to get a set, the fastback units are different than the ones for coupes and verts. Plus the FB versions are more plentiful.

Prices for originals in perfect (unpainted) condition used to be almost $600, but since the repros came out they have dropped to about $350.

yes edbert is absolutly correct. i found out the difference between the fastback and coupe panels the hard way. compare the pic Jester67 posted of his car with the pics of my car. you can see the difference.

I never noticed that but than again mine where the first ones that I had ever seen. And even though they are reproduced they are still rare.

i was watching the BJ auction highlights last night on speed and there was a 68 1/2 CJ car that had the ribbed tail panel, black in the center and the ribs were very highly polished, it looked very cool. that car also went for $375,000. damn!!!! and it was a restomod too boot, an original CJ car but restomodded.
