A friend of mine saw a "barn find" 68 GT convertible today and asked my opinion if it was real or not. Based on the photos, it has the right trim pieces, but it is a 289 four barrel. I have always believed only the 302 and 390 motors were offered in 1968 on the GT. The VIN indicates it is a Metuchen convertible and a C code 289 (8T03C172XXX).
So, short of sending this off to Kevin Marti, is there any way to tell if this is a real GT? The 289 was the first tip that it might be a rebadge, but I've been wrong before (I once owned a Chrysler....)
