I'm wondering if its possible to install '68 Shelby or California Special side scoops on a '66 mustang?

It seems that the '66 Shelby side scoops are thin and fragile, and subject to breaking if I'm contorting out of a tight parking space

Any thoughts?

I'm thinking the 68 scoop would break just as easily.

the '68 style seems to be thicker and has a rounder lip that should be stronger

ive seen alternatives at mustang depot, but the outer edges look ugly

and to clarify, I'm refering to the lower side scoop, not the upper side scoop

It has crossed my mind in the past to use the 67/68 Shelby side scoop as well. It might take some massaging but I think it could work. The body lines might be different. I'm sure someone has done it in the past.

If you crease the bumper of a Toyota coming out of a parking space, a rolled lip on a fiberglass scoop isn't going to help you. Seems ta me the 67-68 scoop sticks out a little farther, too, and that's not gonna help you clear that Toyota, either.

So you're saying if you go without the side scoops you wouldn't have creased the bumper of the Toyota? Well, just don't park next to Toyotas and you'll be okay.

I'm just being a smartass.

Don't think that's what he meant....I have had the 66' scoops on mine for 12 years now an have never had a break.

i might have to fit one up to know for sure.

as far as the contortion comment, im 6'6" and occasionally find myself having to do yoga to get out of the car. its not the act of driving into the space that im worried about, just me needing all the space i can get through the door.

ive thought about going without a side scoop, but that seems like Mr. T not wearing a gold necklace. The scoop gives a lot of visual effect.

while i like the scoop inlet, the over-sized look is ugly to me:

Well, the GT/CS scoop has a solid front, might be a little stronger.
