Anyone here ever buy a repop rear bumper for the 69-70 car, and have the thing stick out on both sides like 2" to far?

Like a moron I never fit the stupid thing before I painted it, and when I bolted it up, it looks like my car has wings!

Anyone else have this problem...and does anyone else have a suggestion as to where to buy my next new one (this one has to be replaced)

i could be way off. but it sounds like it could be a fastback rear bumper maybe? arent the 69-70 FB's wider a bit in the back? hmmm, but that doesn't make sense, since it apears you have a FB....im at a loss

Where did you get your bumper from? I got my front bumper from California Mustang. I know, not the same bumper. Look at it this way, it gives you a good reason to pinch the bumper a little.

My dad's '69 Mach was rearended in August, and his replacement bumper did not look good at all. The one he got bowed out in the middle. He called his vendor to complain, and was told that they rarely get a good straight bumper. So we took it off and carefully "adjusted" it with a really big hammer. Now it is suprisingly straight, even our body man was impressed.

We've had a similar problem with the Nordan bumper I got from NPD (a long time ago now)... it fits very strangely indeed. Ours is reasonably close to the valence and end caps, but tilts at a pretty severe angle. After talking to a local restoration expert (who has lots of experience with MCA show car restos), he indicated it takes a good bit of time and usually a good supply of fender shims to get the bumpers to sit right. We've yet to do it, but I'm hoping for the best with the shims. Give it a try?

Hope this helps. Good luck! :nice:
