7.25" differential help

I have a 200 ci straight 6 mustang with a 7.25" differential that was leaking. I changed out the differential cover this past weekend but I cannot figure out how to fill the differential with lube. Is there an access opening that I can't find? Need help please.

I would guess there is a screw in plug on the side somewhere. Also as a fellow I6 user....what ratio gear do you have? I have 3.56 in mine and I really want to go with something more like a 2.80 or 3.00? Trying to find a good source vehicle to find them.

there is a removable plug on the right side of the pinion shaft section of the housing. that is where you fill the diff with gear oil.

as for finding gears for the 7.25 rear end, try autokrafters. they may have a source for new gears, and they usually have used parts available as well. my falcon has the 3.20 rear gear, and as soon as i can find a maverick 8" four lug rear end, my 7.25 goes away.

Good luck with that! I know of no 8" Maverick 4-lug rears that ever existed. All of my early 6-cylinder Mavericks had the same 7-1/4 rear. The early V8 car with the 8" had 5 lugs and the 1975 6-cylinder had an 8" but that was 5 lugs.

I am pretty sure there was a 4 lug 8inch for the Maverick. Some of the people over on teh Falcon forum were telling me about it the other day. They use it as a swap whilst retainging stock wheels.

Dont ask me why, 5 lug is more desirable to me...

The only thing I can think of is maybe the very first 250 Mavericks used them. Both my 170 and 200 Mavericks had the weak rear (I actually blew it up with the 170 while doing a burnout).

all 250 powered mavericks through 1974 had four lug 8" rear ends. i know of two at least in my area. i hope to lay my hands on one of them one day.
