I have a 1997 Mustang GT conv. and I'm trying to figure out if my car has the 7.5 or 8.8 rear end. I've heard different stories of both. i want to put 4:10's in it and I want to be sure i know what the rear end is.

1986 was the first year

EVery V8 Mustang from 1986 and up has an 8.8 rear in it. The 4-banger/6-bangers get the 7.5"

Our butts are strong, but the V6's and 4 bangers have the weak @sses, better watch how hard you bang on them.

Not trying to hi-jack a thread here, but just so people who are planning on getting an 05 with a v-6 you'll be happy to know that the v-6's will now get an 8.8 with 28 spline axle shafts and I believe 3.27's.

GT's will now come equipped with 31 splines(it's about time). I'm not exactly sure on the gearing, but I think it's still 3.27's. I'm still waiting for an answer here at work. Someone on here said they are suppose to get 3.55's, but I don't think that's going to happen. I'll find out as soon as I know for sure.
