Ok guys need some advice;I got the posi for my rear, now need to know what's a good gear set.I'm running a fairly stock 351 windsor and a 5 speed tranny.Currently has 3.45 gears in it. 3.55 or 3.73s which is better ?

On a 7.5??? Man, I'd seriously consider going to an 8.8. I had a 7.5 in an 84 gt (apparently that's what they came with). It lasted about 5 minutes behind a T5 and a mildly built 302. I wound up going to a swap meet and buying an 8.8, and no more problems... Sorry to be a wet blanket, but there's a reason they went to 8.8's in the V8 cars.

Ditto.. I would look for a 8.8 with the gear set you are looking for, and only pay for it once. I don't know what a 7.5 can handle but a 351 puts out a lot more torque than a 302.

Going with a taller gear set only increases the force on those teeth. You run a bigger risk of shearing the teeth off with the torque of a 351, and the smaller diameter ring gear on a 7.5".

Well I would love to put an8.8 in,however finances are tight right now. So the 7.5 is gonna have to work for now.

I understand tight finances, been there. But resourcefulness is it's own reward. Look around for junk cars and knock on doors asking to buy parts. This can get them cheaper than junk yards. Even running what you've got until you can afford an 8.8 is a more wise decision than investing in gears for a 7.5

Good plan. Get a 3:73 gear for n/a street driving in your 8.8 when you finally get it. I liked mine. It pulled well and It got 24-25 mpg before I went turbo.

I understand, but when it blows up and you are forced to then find an 8.8, you are basically paying much more than if you initially invested in the 8.8 to begin with.

Well posi for the 7.5 was cheap, so I'm not gonna lose much. Started looking local for an 8.8.

You don't have any local salvage yards? I just trashed an 85 with an 8.8. No body local wanted it. They told me they were pulling the 8.8 and crushing the car. I didn't care, I wanted it gone.

If the clutch packs are in good shape that's not bad especially if it still has the backing plates for the brakes. I paid 250 for mine abd had to drive an hour away to get it.

My 82 has gone high 12s with the 7.5 in rear. However, this is with a c4, and a loose converter, footbrake launched. 1.8 sixty foots, on Drag Radials. I installed a new Ford Racing traction lock and 410 gears.

That said, I have two 8.8s in waiting their turn....

The 351 should be a big enough step up that an 8.8 is a necessity. Especially with at five speed.

It will be fun while it lasts.....
