It can be done, yes. I don't know what all it entails, since I haven't personally done it, but what I can think of off hand would be the bumper cover, lights, and mounting panel. The 85-86 was the best looking four eye bumper, so personally I'd keep it.
Anyone looking to turn this into a flame fest, keep it to yourself.
fenders, hood, lights, light harness, bumper, not sure if you need a new inner bumper support or not, fender extensions, door moldings, ground effects, rear bumper, and all the misc hardware to hook that stuff up
If you just want the front bumper, you'll need fender extensions, the front bumper cover w/reinforcement, as well as the GT extension brackets. Unless you want a cobra extension without the scoop. (PM me)
If your doing the entire car, then you would need moldings as well since the GT, LX, and those of your 86 are all different (PM me)
Some more things are side skirts, Rear bumper cover, and other miscellaneous stuff.
Ok, I've deleted three posts so far. I asked people to keep the negative comments to themselves, so let's please be mindful of that when replying. This is a tech thread for someone who wants to know what the swap entails, not an opinion thread. If you're not offering technical advice, your post will be deleted.
well I've got an 87 donor car at a friends house. It got rearended. I already got LX tailights. I just want the front end done. But 87 fenders should just bolt right up shouldn't they?
I think it would be more economical to sell the car and get a aero stang that way you get the look you want. Just an idea I am sure some 4 eyed lover will buy it. It would seem to be more work. As for hoods what are you looking for? They do have cowl hoods for 83-86 Stangs too.
you also need to change the headlight connectors and change the wiring a little for the lights, blinkers, etc. you can get the headlight harness from a donor car. there are a few posts on this if you search but I do know you need to mess with the headlight wires. also don't forget to grab the headlight bucket that goes behind the bumper cover.
thanks for the info. I am going to tackle it today. I would love to sell my car and get a notchback but nobody is buying and people are asking way to much for stock notches. I just like the aero look. I am getting a 4 inch cowl. Next month I am going to dump my 4.6 "Terminator" motor in it. I want my car to be unique here in LA.
