86 Heads vs. E7TE

I'm confident that with a set of slicks I'll be there my next time out and I still have the "crappy" 300,000km E6 heads. I've heard of lots of people putting the E7s on with no problems....haven't done it myself but I've got my buddies old set and I will be trying it for sure after I get into the 12s with the E6s.

The BBK intake is way too much at this point in my opinion and costs an arm and leg to boot...

Seriously though, I HAVE attempted to install E7s on an 86. Here's a hot tip... when you can see daylight through the clay.... that's bad.

It actually ran faster then 13 second, but ok... And I've seen it, and know the guy who raced it. That's first hand.. Not internet hear say like you are throwing out. Get over it... You're wrong.

im really curious to hear what cam you are using in the 86 stang with the E7 heads? perhaps you went to 1.5 ratio rockers instead of 1.6 for the clearence issue. everytime i read anything bout the 86 302 in mags they say you need piston valve refiefs cut into them. even the aftermarket head guys say this. im not doubting you guys did it i just wonder what you changed to get around the clearence issue. bah who really cares i ripped the 86 302 out of my stang and threw a 351 carburated torque monster in.

stock cam, re used rocker arms and pushrods from my E^ heads.

Sure you can't cam a 86 that will cause P to V problems. But that is not the issue. The issue is if E7's bolt on without P to V problems.

Once again... here's me believing it because you said it. There are lots of folks on this forum that I would accept technical advise from. I've checked, you're not on that list.

He is a personal friend, and I sold him this engine, which was never taken apart previously.

Haha no problem. When he had P to V problems on his 86 with the E7 heads, was he using the stock cam, or an aftermarket one?

stock cam. He was actually building this engine for a friend with a 66 falcon. the goal initially was to get the engine from me then just put on the e7 heads, but when he had this issue, he wound up tearing it apart, and throwing a light rebuild on it, but everything that went in internally was all the same stock stuff. He was utterly and complete baffled, and at first disgruntled. both of us didn't understand, because we'd always heard the swap worked just fine. I know that engine had never been apart, because it came from a totled 86gt that I bought and stripped with only 120k on the clock. Despite the damage, it was the most original 86 i'd ever layed eyes on. I believe he checked the head too to see if it had been milled. I don't remember what he found, but I do remember him saying that the e7's weren't responsible for this clearance problem. After this, I cancelled my plans for the e7 swap on my 86 vert, and picked up a 97 gt40p headed explorer 5.0 last week for $700 with only 67k, so that's the new plan.

I only give advise to those who don't have their heads up their asses and give GOOD advise to fellow stanger, unlike you giving s h i t advise in this thread based on what you've heard on the internet. MY theory is that we ALL do know everything when we are 16 (I sure as hell did) but by the time we hit 30, we've had so many beers, we are not quite so smart anymore, at least thats what happened in my case

OK here it is....used to race a E town with my 165,000 mile 86gt STOCK 15.3....
Ripped of E6 heads with minimal auto knowledge and bolted up used old E7's with no clay test and a stock Head gasket......put on 92 upper intake and throttle body and ran a 14.7...not bad....

Scones....no way with some gears and some underdrives does your otherwise stock 86 run in the low 13's.....and PORTED (stock) HEADERS?????????!?!?!?

Must be a Maple leaf thing......

I ran, bone stock at sea level in my heavy 86gt vert, 15.3. Years later, on a tired motor, I had 3.73 gears, and rear control arms, everything else still stock. I ran a 15.3 with no traction/wheel hop issues.

There is a thread on the corral that's titled 12's stock . there is a very, very small hardcore groupe getting 13 flats, high twelves, but these are in stripped down light aero notches. You won't get low 13's n/a on 86 heads

the best time I've seen yet, was on an 86 notch, at sea level, bone stock, save flowmaster exhaust. I know, and trust this guy. He got a 14.6 bone stock. that was impressive.

Really, this is a no debate kinda subject. The bench racers will toss it around, while the guys out there doing the real racing know what the hell is going on.

It's funny, when I'm on the boards, it seems everyone is doing 12's and 13's, then we get to the track, and wtf happened to all the 12 second mustangs

Actually, it's more along the lines of seing you (a third rate mechanic with no imagination, talent or individual thought) blather on about things you know absolutely nothing about. You've got no integrity, and waste an awful lot of time trying to berate other folks because you can't hack a real technical discussion that requires you to think. You ride on the coat tails of folks that DO know and stand back like a tiny hump hump dog waiting for a situation to arise that you can use to try make yourself look like a big man. Nothing to my suprise, you end up looking like little more than a fool. Do yourself a favor. Stick to oil changes and window washing. Every time you step outside of the talk forum you make an ass of yourself. You can sit there and scream and kick and cry all you like. No amount of that is ever going to make you right. So pipe down and let the big boys carry on a conversation.

Lol, I def beat the lock. I know you weren't refferring to me, or were you generalizing to all of us? watch what you say. Also, if you report to moderator, honestly, it's you who looks immature and bad. Fyi, I live in a VERY UN-imbred part of so cal, orange county, and have two bachelor degrees, and own a nice house.
