Whats the trick on getting this thing out? Its an SVO and I don't remember if the radio areas are the same as GT's. Just wondering how to get it out. Trying to help out my dad for Fathers Day but I don't have a book and can't find anything online. Thanks for any help!

Not sure what portion of the removal is the hold-up for ya. I don't recall there being a "trick" to pull out the factory head unit. For me the trick was bypassing the amplifier under the dash cap.

If there are two vertically spaced holes about 2 inches apart on each side, go down to your local Schuck's or Autozone and spend five bucks on a "Ford radio removal tool". It will pay for itself many times over. That's what is needed for my 93 and 96, so I assume it's the same way on your 86.

beat me to it.......buy the tool and save yourself the headache:nice:

Yea, it doesn't have the holes for the keys to take it out. I took loose some screws underneath the radio, but now it seems to be caught on the top by something. Its different from the 87-93 radios. This one looks like the dash is formed around the front of the radio.

Ok... I think I remember something about what you're talking about. There's a grounding clip between the top of the body of the radio and the bracket that it slides into. What I don't remember was whether it was fastened witha small screw or if it was just a clip. So you have the center console removed? i do remember haveing to take all the screws out of the console so that I couls access the back of it to get everything loose.
