Maybe. However I have seen that a quality radar detector that I use now is much better than the lesser ones out there. I know that it won't prevent tickets as there is only 1 cure for that and its not speeding, but it warns me much further and can even pick up when cops are over hills.

BTW I am using an Escort 8500 X50

+1. My escort is great for long drives where I typically average 5 over.... just enough to get a ticket. It isn't perfect but it is another tool to keep me a little more aware of what is going on.

I actually haven't even taken my car over 100 and I live in an area where I could easily get it to that speed. Shoot I took my V6 faster than this car.. I guess I have grown up since then and just don't see a point to going a top speed. If I am going to get a ticket these days besides the basic speeding for around 10mph over which is the most I will push it, it will most likely be for disturbing and whatever the accelerating too quickly is ie peeling out. I don't even peel out much just that where I live kind of dictates how quickly I need to get out into the flow of traffic (Suburb 5 lane road and a 65mph speed limit, I try to go to the light near me but it doesn't happen all the time)

My biggest speeding ticket was 81 in a 70 . Me so lucky. And I don't need no stinking radar detector either.

txredgt, my escort is sex btw. i love it import killer, im aware of how one works. also 98cobra, im one of the stupid ones as well, i passed a state trooper in my town doing 65 in a 45, he hit his brakes and i slammed 3rd and went like hell threw 4th and 5th and lost him in the hills, i went over an over pass and turned into walmart and he took the on ramp sirens blaring, for the interstate, i know who the real idiot is but the trooper is one as well. im no professional by no means, but my modded suspension against his stock CV suspension...i think hes an even bigger one, my sprint lasted about 3.5miles DISCLAIMER i did not run from the police, i out ran them, on a closed course somewhere in the mojavy desert.

i had the same thing happen to me about 5 years ago i was going 145 in a 60 zone(yes i was stupid back then) it was on a 3 lane highway, and i saw the lights come on behind me. I think i was home before he even realized i got off the highway. Why do they even bother at that point?

Why did the officer bother to find you and give you that ticket? Maybe because you were 1.5x over the speed limit.

All I can say is there is a word usually used for people that routinely or frequently exceed the speed limit: Statistics.

No why would he give chase? I know i did a stupid thing back then but at those speeds do we really need him going that fast aswell? Should just radio up ahead if he could or leave it at that.

Did it make you think twice about speeding the next time? Obviously you still think about it today so I think it served its purpose. By what you are saying we should all just go 140+ and they will never attempt to pull us over

I do know that there is an obvious risk of him pursuing you but if you saw him put his lights on shouldn't you have pulled over instead of thinking you could just outrun him?

I wasnt really thinking of our running him, i saw the lights a couple kms behind me and waiting 5 mins at the side of the road for him to catch up and take my car away wasnt really what i wanted at the time. I hope he didnt really try to catch up and just put his lights on for a little scare, which did do me some good lol. It wasnt really my brightest moment.

yea thats rough man. 41 over and especially doing over 80mph. thats a tough one there. is this your first ticket? If so with a lawyer you may get it reduced and maybe some community service.

Good luck

I have'nt used a radar detector in over 15 years. Tho I know the technology has changed a lot since then. The problem with cops around where I live is they use laser which by the time the detector picks up on it your caught.

Been there done that with the tickets when I was in my 20's. Going on 4 years since my last... knock on wood.
