87 2.3L no start

My 87 2.3l beater isnt starting. It turns over but doesnt catch. When it was working good, i would turn the key into the on position, and the fuel pump and elec fan would turn on, but now i have to turn it an extra turn for them both to come on and then the car wont start. I have replaced the ignition in which you put the key in, and i have replaced the solenoid. Same stuff.Any ideas?

I would try replacing the actual ignition switch under the dash. (Assuming that you didn't replace that.) Sounds like that is what is bad, not so much the actual key cylinder.

What is the ignition switch, and where is it located?

I've never had to replace one, but as far as I know, its under the steering column near the key cylinder. It's basically a rectangular thingie that has all the circuits and slide contacts to send power where it needs to go.
