I have an 86 gt and i swapped out all my harnesses for 87+, and when i went to hook up the instrument cluster stuff will light up but they wrong lights and some stuff even shorts out. for ex: when i put the right turn signal on, it lights up an illum. light behind the tach and flashes. and when i put my temporary brights on my pulling back on the wiper/washer handle, my left turn signal, right turn signal and bright lights all come on. I checked the wiring and the plugs that go to the instrument panel and the wiring is correct but when i look at the back of the cluster the wiring goes to the wrong lights. Im thinking maybe somewhere from 87-93 they switched the cluster or at least the wiring on the back. I have the mass air harness from the a 90's 5 liter and the dash harness from an 87 4 banger. everything works but my cluster wont. I know its a long post but if anyone can give me some info on the subject I would be very very appreciative

thanks

Drew

The 87-89 and 90-93 clusters are definitely different. I would think you just need to match the wiring harness to the cluster and you'll probably be all set. I don't know that the main harnesses changed -- but you may have to match those as well.

Yeah they had different clusters in 87-89 and 90-93. The windshield wipers will not work if the 90-93 is used on the 87-89. If this is what happened you windshield wipers only shouldn't work. All connections should hook up except the harness from the steering wheel which provides cruize and horn. I'd go back and check the wiring harness itself.

Before I go any farther are you still using the 86 cluster?

See http://www.stangnet.com/tech/cluster87-93.pdf for a wiring diagram & instructions on swapping the two clusters.
