Im converting my 87 GT to a carb setup and am wandering about the 85 distrubutor. I have been told that this is what I need to use. What else is needed to go with this dist? I done away with all my wiring from the efi. The only wires under my hood are basicly the head lamps and wires running to my solenoid so I can keep the key. Is the 85 mustang settup something I can wire in from scratch? Thanks in advance!:SNSign:

currently doing the same thing with my 89

I am doing the same thing with my 89gt. I am going with an MSD ignition/distributor/coil but a ford duraspark2 ignition will be just fine. I have a wiring diagram that I can send over e-mail to you.

On another note, how did you wire up your fuel pump?

Quadstang-
I haven't quite figured out what Im doing with the fuel pump yet either. Im thinking of just going with a fuel cell and electric pump. It will be alot simpler, plus its not gonna be a DD so I dont need to have a 15-20 gal tank. If you can email that diagram it would be great! If you dont mind me asking, what did the full msd setup run you?

I'm doing the same swap to my 87GT. I'm running the MSD set-up. As for my fuel, I'm planning to run a holley blue pump with a fuel cell. I will use a toggle switch to control the holley pump.

My buddy did the same thing to his 89LX and I will use his set-up as a diagram.

Include me in on this.. I found something on the crane website a while back, but it says it is discontinued. http://www.cranecams.com/pdf/90002015.pdf

as far as my fuel pump, i was planning on getting the entire summit kit (pump/filter/braided line etc) and wiring it to a 12 volt source, and runing it off a rocker switch like NitroNixon stated above.

the main issue i dont get is how the lines will actually hook up to the fuel pump (is it a barbed fitting, or how does the stainess line attach to the pump?)

also, are you guys using your stock sending units to supply the fuel, or going with like a granatelli aftermarket one? what im planning on doing is taking the stock pump out, and the tube that has the sock on it, cutting it off, attaching some rubber hose so it lays across the bottom of the tank, then runing a line from the top of the stock pump, to the electric fuel pump to the filter then to te carb.
anyone have any insight on this? i used to talk to crazy pete alot about this as that is what he did, but i havent seen him in forever

Oh, and as far as the distributor, ive heard that you have to get one from an 85 (originally carb'd) stang with a 5-speed, if thats what yours is equipped with. it has to have a steel gear or you will chew the gear up. a friend of mine killed his dizzy that way. theres also another one you can use off of like a granada or something, but ill have to look that up when i get home.

oh, and as far as the initial question about the dizzy... i was told that you can get that dizzy (from the 85 five speed carb'd stang w/ steel gear) and run a duraspark box off of it. i was told that someone makes one that plug and plays with that dizzy so you can bypas the duraspark... im on a mission to find the wiring diagrams

We definately have to keep this thread going.. i just regained intrest in finishing my car

jesus, ive edited this post 700 times.. i forgot, have you guys seen this website? it is awesome for what we need

Yeah I know about Jason Fletchers website. You are correct with the dizzy from the 85. I do have a 5-speed, but it's broke right now, so I'm looking at the G-Force rebuild kits.

I plan to have everything done by mid April.

Im using my stock T-5 for now, but 3rd gear sounded like a supercharger after a few missed shifts. i had mine rebuilt with a hanlon block & ring kit, so hopefully, she will last till i can get a tremec.
