Looking to do a enginge swap in in a Early Bronco, what are the differences in 88-95, 5.0 , HO, and Cobra's? I have acces to wrecked cars, mustangs, explorers, linchons, vans, trucks, ect. what should i look for?? What do you think about 5.8 with 5.O upper in takes?? I'm so confused. Please help.

Your best bet is to get a 5.0 Exploder engine, its just about the same as the 93-95 Cobra minus the cam and the rockers; and they're coming of age in the junkyards.

87-93 Mustangs and 88-92 Mark VII's had the same engine, but they are getting hard to find in decent condition. Also any 5.0 from 93-95 had hyper pistons the eariler ones were forged.

Any other motor you probably don't want if you're looking for performance.

5.0

What years of Explorer are the best? What about 5.8 with a 5.0 upper intake?

Not sure if all Explorer heads are GT40P's, but here is the interchange from my computer.

Explorer '97 8-302 (5.0L), ID F77E-BA
Explorer '98-01 8-302 (5.0L)
Mountaineer '97 (8-302, 5.0L), ID F77E-BA
Mountaineer '98-01 8-302 (5.0L)

And then this........

Explorer '96 8-302 (5.0L)
Explorer '97 8-302 (5.0L), ID F67E-BA
Mountaineer '97 (8-302, 5.0L), ID F67E-BA

The 96-97 1/4 Explorer had GT40's (three bars on the front and "GT" stamped by the first plug hole) the later ones had GT40P's (four bars and a "GTP"). The GT40P's are better as most would say, but require special headers; the GT40 bolts right on like any other Ford head.

As for the intake, yes they will work, but it kind of depends on what brand your're talking about too; you don't want the upper intake to be a bottle neck.

When you guys swap a good running stock 5.0L engine over to say an E cam, GT40 or GT40P heads, and an Explorer or Cobra upper and lower, what injectors do you run. Reason being, if I do this, I don't want to pay for a tune. I could adjust timing and fuel pressure accordingly.

I have a 96 Explorer engine with a TFS 1 cam, I'm using the Explorer 19# injectors. The skinny injectors, Bosch I think, have four nozzle holes and inject the fuel more uniform patten, the fat Denso's only have one hole.

The GT40P heads require a different header because of the angle of the spark plug hole in the head design . If you try to use standard shorty headers your spark plug boots will be too close to the header causing issues with heat , not to mention being a pain in the ass to change the plugs . You can buy "P" specific headers on E-bay or I think regular MAC shorties work too .

If you get a 5.8 you dont want a 5.0 upper on it.

The explorer intakes are very siniliar in design to the 93 cobra intake . The design of the lower is the exact same as the cobra and GT-40 intakes and the upper has comparable flow rates to the cobra upper . Some of the explorer intakes had provisions for the EGR (similiar to 89-93 mustangs) some did not , not sure which years maybe someone can chime in .

The 5.0 is actually a 4.9XXX liter they just round up. The 4.6 is a modular motor.
