I picked up a '88 GT about a month ago. I converted it from EFI to carb, and I just replaced the old T5 with a new one yesterday. When I got the car, it was a wiring diaster, but I'm sorting through it slowly. I have a problem now, and I'd like to get a little input. Ok, here we go. The car only starts when I jump the solenoid. And it runs fine. When I turn the key, I get lights on the dash, and I hear my fuel pump kick in, but the engine does'nt turn, and no sound. So I took my test light and tested the wire on the top center terminal. No fire! So I'm thinking that it has to be the ignition, but I put a new ignition switch in about a week ago. I have'nt checked the safety switches yet, but everyone continues to tell me that if I change out the solenoid, that will fix my problem. I guess that's possible, but if I'm not getting fire to the solenoid, a new solenoid would'nt make a difference would it? Anyone know of any backyard tricks to run this problem down?

The guy who I bought it from said he thgought the starter was going out, but he had installed a push button start and there was'nt an actual ignition switch. Since I've had the car, it's always been started by jumping the solenoid. I really want to believe it's the ignition not sending power to the solenoid.
