I bought a 88 mustang for my first car and I can't figure out what's wrong with it. Being a girl, I don't know very much about cars, some but not all, and my dad doesn't always have the time to help me. When I first got it, it had a brand new motor put in it. My dad and I cleaned out the gas tank, and it starts. But when we put it in drive it bogs down and wants to die. I just need to know some ideas of what could be wrong with it. Thanks in advance!

Dump codes sticky

Look at the top of the 5.0 Tech forum where the sticky threads are posted. One of them is how to dump the computer codes. Codes may be present even if the CEL(Check Engine Light) isn’t on. I highly suggest that you read it and follow the instructions to dump the codes. http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-forums/threads/how-to-pull-codes-from-eec4.889006/

I agree start with pulling engine codes. Then check the basics over and see if they look good. It may be as simple as the timing being off.

I want to measure mine. It doesn't look that tall.

It's an 88 so you can rule out dual plug or maf issues. Pull the codes like suggested.
